Team Levels

Team Placement and Advancement:

Decisions on team placement and advancement are made solely at the discretion of the VSY Marlins coaching staff.  Factors that are considered in the coaches' decisions include, but are not limited to, the swimmer's technical abilities, stamina, attention span, emotional and mental readiness, motivation for the individual team member and others on the team, and team dedication.  If you feel your child is not on the appropriate team, please speak directly to the coach.

Mini-Marlins:  Approximate ages 7 - 8

Description:

The Mini-Marlins is for swimmers that are not yet ready for a competitive team environment but who have an interest in competitive swimming and plan to join the VSY Marlins Swim Team in the future.  These swimmers still need instruction on basic strokes, and/or don’t have the endurance or stamina to keep up with a more regular training regimen.  A season or two of Mini-Marlins makes transitioning to the VSY Marlins Swim Team easy. The goal is to improve familiarity with all swimming strokes in a fun and creative environment.  We want these swimmers to develop a love for swimming whether or not they advance to more competitive levels.  Swimmers new to the program must be evaluated by a member of the coaching staff prior to enrollment.

Note:  Mini-Marlins is structured as a "swim class" and is held Tuesday/Thursday.  Participants swim a 7 week session each and register with the Valley-Shore YMCA swim lesson program.

Prerequisites:

  • Swim 25 yards (1 length of the pool) of continuous freestyle and backstroke
