Job Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Head Coach, the Head Age Group Coach will support the development, organization, and implementation of a high-quality YMCA/DCST swim team program. 

Experience and Certification Requirements:

  • Coaches DCST swim team members, 12 years of age and under, in competitive swimming/strength development techniques.
  • Assists with other swim team member age groups as necessary.
  • Supports DCST activities to meet YMCA objectives, standards, and guidelines.
  • Supports collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Supports member connections through the DCST programs.
  • Remains current in all YMCA swim team requirements, certifications, and guidelines.
  • Writes swim team practices and assists in Stroke Clinic.
  • Creates swim meet line-ups and provides supervision at swim meets.
  • Communicates with parents.
  • Provides swim team members with progress evaluations.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, including: creation and production of materials
  • Establish and maintain social media platforms, team website, meet management and team management software programs
  • Assist in maintenance of program guide
  • Writes newspaper articles for website, social media, and print
  • Promotes fundraising and membership, in accordance with team’s strategic plan.
  • Collect team fees
  • Involved in team functions including the organization of volunteers, setup for swim meets, and season ending banquets
  • Maintains records, rosters, spreadsheets, coach’s certifications, and record board and meet participation
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by DCST Head Coach
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent preferred.
  • One to two years competitive swimming experience preferred
  • Minimum age requirements may apply; for example, minimum age of 21 
  • Completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR for the Professional Rescuer; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, YMCA Principles of Swimming and Diving Coaching
  • Lifeguarding certification, USA Swimming Background Check
  • Within the first year of employment must pass the USA Swimming Level 1 Coaching Test Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
  • Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals without an electronic aid.

Assistant Coaches
The Waunakee WAVE is a year-round competitive swim program located in Waunakee, WI. We are currently looking for one or two assistant coaches within our Developmental Age Group program and with our Age Group program. This position does have the opportunity to grow into a position with more hours and responsibility within the club. As a staff, we do not believe in measuring success in the short term, but rather by teaching an appreciation of the process.

We value commitment and accountability from each athlete in the path to individual success. We discuss often and fondly the future opportunities that this sport holds for our athletes, while making no secret of, or exception to, the demands required of this sport.

We emphasize a healthy balance of athletics, education and family, as shown by our meet schedule. We teach the importance of choice, sacrifice and accountability. We value communication from our athletes to their coaches and we emphasize the role of the athlete in each athlete’s success. The candidate must display a strong knowledge of current stroke techniques and is energetic and active on deck, enthusiastic about the opportunity and possess good communication skills. Our ideal candidate will possess high ethical and moral standards and will be as interested in our members’ character development as they are in their development as swimmers. We are looking for a coach who has a passion to coach and mentor our swimmers!

The assistant age-group positions consist of but are not limited to:

  • Assists the Head Coach and/or Head Developmental Coach in all areas as/where needed, when necessary.
  • Duties include but are not limited to:
    • Maintaining and continuing education to all athletes in his/her level about proper stroke technique.
    • Responsible for a comprehensive and thorough knowledge of proper stroke technique and execution.
    • Teaching and re-enforcing a strong understanding of training expectations and guidelines to all athletes in his/her level.
    • Responsible for all attendance records of all athletes.
    • Responsible for implementing any and all rules or guidelines regarding workout expectations as outlined in the Team Handbook.
    • If the candidate is the lead coach of a group they will act as primary contact to parents regarding any issues or concerns with any swimmer in his/her group while including the Head Coach in these issues.
    • Responsible for assisting coaches with the athlete selection, meet entries and event selections of his her athletes at each meet.
    • A thorough and precise ability to understand which of his/her athletes need to be maintained and which need to be moved up in order to ensure personal success of each athlete.
    • Must be able to show unwavering support and the belief in the program structure as a whole, the philosophies of the Head Coach, and be willing to assist in all areas whenever appropriate.
    • Must have the ability to disassociate from the personal successes of his/her athletes and recognize at any time his/her athletes may be moved around or out of his/her level at any time at the discretion of the Head Coach.

Coaches in this program have a combined 50 years in the sport and all levels ranging from instructional development to the National and Olympic levels. All coaches on this program are full-time and salaried with an investment in athletes across all levels. Coaches are involved to different degrees from our developmental groups through our Senior groups, while maintaining their focus within their respective primary group(s).  Candidates must have all USA Swimming Certifications including a Background Check, Athlete Protection Training, CPR/First Aid, Safety training and willing to get their Lifeguard Certification within 3 months of hiring.

Senior Coach
The Black Hawk Area Swim Team is looking to hire a Full Time Senior Coach with the possibility of advancement. The coach would lead, design, and foster systematic growth for our Senior swimmers while in line with the BLAST Mission Statement/Vision/Values (see website). BLAST trained 220 swimmers last winter and our numbers continue to rise. We currently have 1 Junior National qualifier, 4 Futures qualifiers, and 16 Sectional qualifiers at the senior level.

Requirements:

  • Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices with knowledge of stroke/skill technique in accordance with the Head Coach/Program Director and Senior Coaching staff.
  • Abide by the USA Swimming Code of Conduct, and BLAST policies and procedures.
  • 5+ years swim coaching experience and current swim coaching certification.
  • Establish a local presence and reputation within ISI, the Central Region, and USA Swimming via clinics, volunteering, etc. 
  • Plan and execute team-building and social functions.
  • Current certification in CPR, First Aid, Safety Training for Swim Coaches.

  • Maintain and pursue continuing education related to all athletes at his/her level about proper stroke technique.

  • Attend all staff meetings.
  • Determine Senior group members’ events for meet entries and submit/approve entries by team’s registration deadline.

Lead Developmental Coach
​​Mundelein
Mustang Swim Club (MMSC) located in Mundelein, Illinois is seeking 1 part time Lead Developmental Coach to join our staff. The position is available immediately and will be open until filled. MMSC trains at Mundelein High School in a 10 lane 25 yard natatorium.

Lead Developmental Coach responsibilities include:

  • Work with our newest and youngest swimmers on a daily basis.
  • Working with young swimmers to teach them stronger technical and training skills.
  • Hours of work will consist of 3-5 evenings a week and Saturday Mornings, and approximately 6-7 hours at weekend meets as needed.
  • Practices are held in the evenings and Saturday mornings.
  • This coach reports directly to the Head Coach.

Qualifications: Applicants should have prior coaching experience or swimming experience and hold or be willing to obtain the following certifications: Coaches Safety Training, CPR and First Aid (as is required to obtain USA Swimming Coaching credentials). A background check will also be required.

Compensation: This is an hourly position and the rate will be commensurate with experience. MMSC will also cover the costs of required certifications and USA Swimming membership.

Family Swim School Competitive Aquatic Director & Lifeguard Supervisor
General Description The Competitive Aquatic Director has responsibility of the annual operation of the 3 Swim Teams under the FSS-Lakeville Umbrella. This entails responsibility for technical, developmental training & recruitment programs. Strong Organizational, Leadership, and Administrative Skills essential.

Performance Reviews One formal review session per year to be completed by September 15. Reviews will be performed by FSS Owners

Description of Responsibilities and Duties

Coaching Staff Supervision

  • In association with FSS Management, interview & recommend to management Asst. Coach candidates. If required candidates will require an interview with FSS management.
  • Direct supervision and development of Assistant Coachs for the 3 teams. Insuring uniform development is implemented with all 3 teams at all squad levels.
  • Meet with coaching staff each competitive season, or as required to insure staff accoutability and productivity.
  • Develop specific criteria at each squad level. This criteria can serve as a definitive standard for advancement through squad program.
  • Insure Coach’s “ Code of Conduct “ is displayed during practice and competition events.

Pre Swim Team Instruction and Development

  • In consultation with Management, insure consistency of FSS stroke development philosophy is followed through the Swim School’s stroke instructional curriculum.
  • Develop and maintain a system of measuring the success of the swimmer development program ensuring a smooth transitiion into the competitive arena. Implement an effective strategy for recurring recruitment of new members for all teams
  • Promote and coordinate measured competition events for novice level swimmers augmenting their transition into more calibered swim meets.

Administration Provide efficient admistration guidelines & accountability in the following areas: 1) Team entries and USA registration 2) Team Records and Web Site Updates 3) Team communication via Social Media 4) Annual Parent Meeting / Awards Night

Seasonal Planning Plan appropriate seasonal workout parameters enabling long term objectives to be accomplished.

Financial On an annual basis: 1) Be able to forecast team enrollment 2) Develop and Submit anticipated expenses for Swim Meet Per Diem, Seasonal Asst Coaching Staff hours 3) Pool Rental time

Qualifications ASCA Level One or Two coach All certifications current and in good standing with USA swimming or willing to obtain current status. Lifeguard Supervisor Responsible for On Going Training, Supervison, and scheduling of Brackett’s Crossing Lifeguards from Memorial to Labor Day.

Spirit Profit Sharing Compensation Profit Sharing will be 25% of Net Profit after overhead. A sliding scale increase will be determined on Team Enrollment & Board of Dirtectors Review.

Age Group and Senior Assitant Coach
Lake Country Swim Team, Hartland Wisconsin, is seeking hourly and/or full time assistant coaches for both our senior and age group programs. Ideal candidate is enthusiastic, engaging, a strong communicator and team player. Responsibilities will include assisting and substituting for lead coaches as needed with potential assignment as group lead coach. SUPERVISOR: Swim Team Head Coach

RESPONSIBILITIES: (partial listing)

  • Develop positive relationships with participants and provide motivational support and guidance.

Candidates must become a coach member of USA Swimming and must have or be willing to satisfactorily complete safety training, background check, and athlete protection training required by USA Swimming as well as be at least 18 years of age.

We are looking for entry level age group coaches to help our early to mid-level swimmers. Past competitive swimming experience preferred.

Head Coach
The River Falls Swim Club is seeking a head coach serving a 75-100 swimmer club ages 6-18 in River Falls, Wisconsin. This position is available to be filled immediately, but must be filled by June 1, 2018

Expectations of the successful candidate is to manage a 6-member coaching staff. Must be available for office duties and communication with the club members and board as well as being on the pool deck every weekday night from 6 - 9 pm. Coaching weekends is also expected as needed for swim meets.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certifications: Background Check, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, Athlete Protection Training, Concussion Training, ASCA Level 1 Certified/Foundations of Coaching, First Aid, and CPR
  • Coaching Experience with strong knowledge of stroke mechanics
  • Experience creating work-outs and seasonal training plans
