DESERT THUNDER AQUATICS
DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING PROGRAM

 

White Group

 

 

Admittance

1. Age 6-8 based on age on first day of final meet of the season

2. Accuracy to Mastery of Free, Back, and Fly based on USA Swimming Rules & Regs

3. Can safely complete 12+ lengths of the pool in any of the above strokes

 

Group Format

The group is designed to help the swimmers achieve a solid foundation in all strokes, as well as be introduced to the team environment. Consistent technique work is the main focus. Swimmers will also work on race specific fundamental skills. The goal of the group is to grow a passion that will carry this into a lifelong sport.

 

Attendance

Practices offered 2-3x/week with 2x expected for proper progression

 

 

Blue Group

 

Admittance

1. Age 9-13 based on age on first day of final meet of the season

2. Accuracy to Mastery of all 4 strokes based on USA Swimming Rules & Regs

3. Can safely complete 500 yards of the pool in any mix of the above strokes

 

Group Format

The group is designed to help the swimmers achieve a solid foundation in all strokes, as well as be introduced to the team environment. Consistent technique work is the main focus. Swimmers will also work on race specific fundamental skills. The goal of the group is to grow a passion that will carry this into a lifelong sport.

 

Attendance

Practices offered 3x per week with 3 expected for strong progression

 

 

Gold Group

 

Admittance

1. 8-12 years based on age on first day of final meet of the season.

2. Minimum of three AZSI 'B' Qualifying time standards

3. Proven attendance of 2x/week if coming from White and 3x/week coming from Blue

4. Demonstrated personal ownership for their own swimming progress including initiative to attend practice, complete the training plan, and respect and follow the the directions of the coach.

 

Group Format

This group is a 9 & up age group designed to develop and improve an already solid foundation in all four strokes and prepare swimmers for competition. Swimmers will be challenged to combine stroke technique, speed training, and mental discipline to create a level of fitness appropriate and sustainable for competition. This will be done all while promoting a sense of accomplishment in personal goal setting and dedication to the sport.

 

Attendance

Practices are offered 5 days per week with 4x/week for proper progression and 3x/week minimal for continued group participation.

 

Junior Championship Team

Admittance

1. Age 10-12 years based on age on first day of last meet of the season

2. Minimum one 10 & U AZSI 'A' or six 11-12 AZSI 'B' Qualifying Times

3. Proven attendance in Gold of 4x/week

4. Personal ownership for their own progress in swimming including point #4 from Gold Group in addition to a constant awareness of specific things coach wants improvement on.

 

Group format

This group is designed to prepare swimmers for the responsibility of the highest levels of Age Group swimming. Juniors will focus on mental preparedness and being an athlete inside and outside of swim practice. Swimmers will work on race-specific fitness, stroke/start/turn shaping, race strategy dependent on season, and performance sets to help develop speed with consistent stroke counts.

 

Attendance

Practices are offered 6x/week, with 5x/week recommended, and 4x/week required for continued group participation.     

 

 

Pre-Senior Championship Team

 

Admittance

1. Age 12-16 years based on age on first day of last meet of the season

2. Minimum three 11-12 AZSI 'A' or nine 13-14 AZSI 'B' Qualifying Times

3. Proven attendance in Juniors of 5x/week for prior season

4. Personal drive to excel in the sport of swimming year-round, not just seasonally. Excellence in training and meets is a majority personal drive with the push from the coach being the ‘little extra’ you need to excel. You succeed because YOU, the athlete, want to succeed.

 

Group format

This group is designed to prepare swimmers for the responsibility of the highest levels of Competitive Swimming. Pre-Seniors will focus on their relationship with the water, responsibility to proper movement patterns, and staying outside of their comfort zone for racing. Swimmers will adopt a personal responsibility to help them excel in the Senior programming of Desert Thunder Aquatic Club

 

Attendance

Practice is offered 6x/week with full attendance recommended and 80% minimum to maintain group participation.
