                              SAINT ANDREW’S SWIMMING

MISSION STATEMENT: Encouraging students to follow a positive direction in life through excellence in aquatics.

We are always excited to have new families join Saint Andrew’s swimming! We understand that many of you are new to the sport and our website, so we would like to help you get started by answering some common questions many new families have.  Please feel free to contact us with any further questions you may have.

What equipment does my child need to be on the swim team?

The equipment needed is dependent on which group your child is in. On the developmental Bronze teams, the only equipment that is required is goggles and fins (not to be confused with snorkeling fins!). Most kids purchase mesh equipment bags to keep all their equipment in and leave them in the storage bins on deck.

We keep most of these items in stock at the pool. If you’d like to purchase any of these items, let one of the coaches know and they would be happy to assist you.

How do I know the practice schedule and if there are any practice cancelations?

We are constantly keeping our online calendar updated. You can find everything that applies to your child’s group (practice times, cancelations, meet dates) here.

∙ Click on Group Calendars on the top of the page

∙ Under “Pick a Calendar” use the dropdown box to choose the appropriate group

∙ If practice cancelations are within 24 hours an email will be sent out

How will my child learn all the rules in swimming?

There are many different rules for all the different stokes and turns in swimming. Learning all of these can be very overwhelming, especially for beginners. Each practice we incorporate the rules into practice so they are learning them on a daily basis. Encourage your child to be patient and explain that it will take some time to learn all the rules.

How do I sign up for a competition?

∙ Go to www.saintandrewsswimming.com and sign into your account by using your email address  and password you created.

∙ Click on “Competitions” on the top of the page.

∙ Find whichever event you would like to attend and click on “Attend/Decline”

∙ Select “Yes, please sign up for this event”

∙ In the “Notes” section you may leave any comments that pertain to the meet such as: “Please pick events” or “Can only attend on Saturday”

∙ Save changes

Do I need to pick my child’s races for the meet?

No, it is not mandatory for you to pick your child’s races for the meet. All you need to do is commit to the event online (using the steps above) and we can pick the races for them. If you do pick your child’s races the coaches must still approve the events and edit them if necessary.

How do I find out the meet information?

∙ Click on “Events” on the top of the page

∙ Find the event you are looking for and click on it

∙ Scroll down to the bottom of the page and the meet info will be posted under “Forms/Documents”

∙ Click on the attachment

∙ Here you will find all the information you will need such as:

                ∙ Pool address

                ∙ Timelines (if available)

∙ Meet warm up and start times

∙ Which events are which days (if longer than a 1 day meet)

What should I bring to a swim meet?

Some meets are longer than others, but you should always be prepared!

∙ Swim cap and goggles

∙ Multiple towels

∙ Water or Gatorade to stay well hydrated

∙ Healthy snacks such as fruit or granola bars (no soda, chips, candy, etc.)

∙ Chairs (some facilities are very limited in seating)

∙ Sunscreen (even when it is cloudy you can still get burnt!)

What should I tell my child to work on at home?

Nothing! You can leave the coaching up to us! What you are telling them about their strokes, dives, etc. may be different from the method we use and the way we teach them. This way, any confusion on what they are supposed to be doing is eliminated. Your role as a parent is to encourage and cheer on your children. :)
