Get to know a Swimmer

Artist and Special Olympic Athlete, Wade Shealy is a Disney World Cast member wannabe, a student in the Lively Transition Program and a lover of banana pudding .

Wade’s athletic accomplishments began at an early age when he won a local diaper derby race at the Tallahassee Mall.  After the diaper derby victory Wade decided to take a long needed rest before returning to competition. When Wade finally returned to competition, he joined Challenger Little League Baseball and played for eight years and also swims with Challenger ATAC which has been for the past seven years. Wade was also one of the original members when both of these challenger programs started.

In 2008, Wade began participating in Special Olympics of Leon County.   Since then he has been to the Special Olympics State games three times and won a medal each time:

2011 Special Olympics State Aquatic Games  (1st time at State Aquatic games) Bronze medal 50 meter freestyle

2009 Special Olympics Golf State Games  Bronze Medal (skills)

2008 Special Olympics Golf State Games  Gold Medal (skills)

Along with Golf and Aquatics, this year Wade started participating in Special Olympics tennis and gymnastics.

When Wade is not competing for Special Olympics or waiting for contact from extraterrestrial life forms, he can be found pursuing his other interests:  animation; old black & white sci-fi movies; Young Life Capernaum; Disney World; Star Wars (original trilogy) and expanding his knowledge on a wide range of subjects.
