Open Water Athlete Selection
Athletes for the Open Water Zone Team are chosen through an application process. Swimmers will pay full cost of the trip which will be due to Georgia Swimming by May 1. The age groups eligible for the meet are 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, and Open. Four boys and four girls in each age group are selected. Anyone who is 19 and older and/or not currently in high school is welcome to apply for the Open age group but will be asked to travel on their own if qualified. Age group is based off of swimmer's age on the last day of the competition year (December 31, 2019).
Swimmers will be asked to complete the time, date, and USA Swimming Power Point score for each event they have completed including the 1650, 1500, 1000, 800, 500, and 400 freestyle. Power Points can be calculated on Power Point calculation. Swimmers must use higher age in their age group to calculate score (ex: 12, 14, 16, 18). Swimmers 18 and older may use their actual age. Swims must have occurred between April 1 of the previous year and April 1 of the current year. The four swimmers in each gender of each age group (11-12, 13-14, 15-16, Open) with the highest Power Point score in one of the events will qualify. Ties will be broken by looking at the swimmer’s event with the second highest Power Point score. The 400/500 Free are applicable for the 11-12 age group only.
This year's trip to Chattanooga, TN will be $400 per athlete. All transportation, lodging, and meals are included.
