Listed below are time standards for all swimmers within Rice Aquatics. Some meets, typically championship meets, have a qualifying time standard, meaning a swimmer must be above or below the time standard in order to compete in the meet. This ensures not only a manageable meet size, but equal opportunity among athletes across the meet.
National Meet Time Standards
In order to qualify for USA Swimming's National Meets, swimmers must first post a qualifying time during the qualifying period. These standards or 'cuts' are set before the swim season begins and are subject to change each season. For more information you can go to the USA Swimmings Time Standard Page.
Listed below are local or regional time standards. Many of these standards are used for Texas or Gulf meets. These standards can typically be achieved in any course. Standards or 'cuts' are set prior to the calendar year of each short course season.
USA Swimming Age Group Standards
The Motivational Age Group Time Standards are designed to encourage swimmers to step up their swimming to the next level. These standards are a guide for all levels of swimmers. For information on how the Motivational Standards are set click here.
