About Us

Kohawk Aquatics is a USA Swimming competitive club program run by Coe College which was started in the Fall of 2021. The club is run by the Head Coach and the Coe College Aquatics Director.  Kohawk Aquatics is a member of the Iowa Swimming LSC (which is part of USA Swimming).

 

Mission Statement

The mission of Kohawk Aquatics is to provide an opportunity for all our swimmers to strive towards being the best they can be in a fun, safe, inclusive, and competitive environment.

 

Philosophy

Kohawk Aquatics is committed to providing an excellent swimming experience for swimmers ages 7 and older.  It is the goal of the program to create a positive environment in which the athletes can learn, train, and challenge themselves to develop self-esteem and pride through accomplishments as both an individual and a team.

Training Groups

We offer a range of training groups to enusre a good fit that compliments an athlete's goals at each level of USA-Swimming competitive events while allowing for development to be enganged in a safe manner.

Novice: Red Cross Level 3 or Swim America Level 7 skills are required. Training is conducted 4 days per week. Athletes should train 2 to 4 times per week. Practice duration is around 1 hour. Training will focus on skill acquisition and developing techinical aspects of strokes, turns, and starts. Meets will be offered one to three times per month during the regular seasons in IA and IL only.

Age-Group #1: 10 & Under "BB" cut times are required. Open to athletes from ages 9 to 12. Training is conducted 5 days per week. Athletes should plan to train 3 to 5 times per week. Practice duration is around 1.5 hours. Training will focus on developing technical skills, areobic and anaerobic systems, and be conducted around 3 to 6 week training cycles with taper phases mixed in 2 to 3 times each season. Meets will be offered one to three times per month during the regular seasons in Iowa and surrdounding states.

Age-Group #2: 11- 12 "BB" cut times are required. Open to athletes ages 9 to 14. Training is conducted 6 days per week. Athletes should plan to train 3 to 5 times per week. Training is similar to Age-Group #1 but with faster intervals and more intensity. Meets will be offered one to three times per month during the regular seasons in Iowa and surrounding states. 

Pre-Senior: 13-14 "BB" cuts are required. Designed for athletes ages 12 & Over. Dryland workouts are added 3 days per week along with the daily water segments. Training is offered 5 to 6 days per week and athletes should plan to attend at least 4 of those sessions. Training cycles last 4 to 6 weeks outside of taper phases. Meets are offered one to three times per month during the regular seasons in Iowa and other surrounding states. 

Senior: This group is designed for athletes 14 & Over who have attained 15 & Over "A" cut times. Training is geared towards success at ISI Championships, Sectionals, and USAS National level competitions each season with the goals to compete at elite levels. Training cycles last 4 to 8 weeks outside of tapering phases. Athletes should plan to attend at least 5 training sessions per week (as 7 to 9 workouts are offered per week) and attend a goal setting session before the start of the long course seasons and plan to commit to year-round training with only short breaks in the spring and fall.
