Squad Moveup Criteria

 

The move-up criteria is listed in importance, starting with the most important.  You will notice a trend of emphasizing practice competency over competitive skill.  We are a competitive program, and want our swimmers to be highly successful at meet.  We believe that by putting in the work every practice, fast swimming will inevitably follow.  The criteria measure some of the work that will be done on the next squad, and the coaches strive to make squad transitions as smooth as possible. A swimmer's focus, attitude, and long term development will be taken into account for each squad!

 

C Squad to B Squad (Recommended attendance for B squad: 3 times per week)

  • Shows consistent focus and attentiveness required of a B-Squader
  • Consistent, legal turns: free and back flip turns, two-hand touches on breast and fly
  • Complete 10-minute session of yoga/dryland properly executing all poses
  • 100 IM and a 200 Free under 6:30.  (Strokes and turns must be legal, or it doesn't count).
  • Know :00 and :30 intervals and :05 back
  • 25 yards of properly executed sculls

  • Properly executed drills
    • Free - popov, balance drills 1, 2, and 3
    • Back - log roll, 10-kick switch

    • Breast - 3 sec-glide

B Squad to A Squad (Recommended attendance for A squad: 4 times per week)

  • Work ethic consistent and hard enough as viewed by the coaching staff to swim full A Squad practices
  • Ability to use pace clock on all types of intervals and keep track of the number of repeats in a set
  • 100 of each stroke legally with minimal technique deterioration 
  • 6x50 kick @1:15
  • Test Set 200 Free under 3:20 with properly executed flip turns on all walls
  • 50 yards of properly executed sculls

A Squad to Junior  (Recommended attendance for Junior squad: 5-6 times per week)

  • Work ethic consistent and hard enough as viewed by the coaching staff to swim full Junior Squad practice
  • Complete 20-minute session (M/W/Sa) of yoga/dryland properly executing all poses and exercises
  • Proper execution of all drills, strokes, and sculls
  • 10x100 Free on 1:30
  • Be 11 years of age
  • 10x50 flutter kick on 1:05(2 out of the 3 kicks: dolphin, flutter, breast)
  • 8x50 scull, 2 of each @1:10
  • 100 Free 1:08 and 200 IM 2:45

Junior to Senior (Recommended attendance for Senior squad: 7 times per week)

  • Work ethic consistent and hard enough as viewed by the coaching staff to swim full Senior Squad practice
  • Behavior and attitude appropriate with role model status
  • 20x100 Free @1:20
  • 10x100 flutter kick @1:50
  • 500 under 6:00
  • 100 Free under 1:00
  • 200 IM under 2:25/2:28(boys/girls)
