SAS Practice Groups

Improvers:                                   

Requirements:  3rd grade or younger and can complete 25 yards on stomach and 25 yards on back safely.

Program goals: Aquatic recess! Athletes will learn balance, breath control and basic swimming movement patterns.   Minimal full stroke swimming, maximum quality exercises.

Equipment: Swim suit, goggles, fins.

Rising Stars:                                   

Requirements: Age 4th- 6th grade and can complete 25 yards on stomach and 25 yards on back safely.

Program goals: Focus stays on balance and breath control with special emphasis teaching athletes USA Swimming legal breaststroke and butterfly.  Most swimming is performed with perfection in mind, not speed. Athletes will work towards swimming a legal 100 IM and be able to race a 200 free.

Equipment: Swim suit, goggles, fins, front mount snorkel.

Advanced Improvers:                 

Requirements: 2nd- 5th grade and complete a USAS legal 100 IM and race a 200 Freestyle.  Participation in competitions is strongly encouraged.

Program goals: To create a wide base of aquatic athletic skills and introduce basic competitive training skills.  Stroke exercises are learned and quality execution is taught to allow for constant swimming improvement.

Equipment: Swim suit, goggles, fins, front mount snorkel.

Osprey Red:                                   

Requirements: 4th- 6th grade and over and have a successful history in competitive swimming training and racing and have at least 1 USAS National “B” time for the 10 and under age group.  Regular attendance at competitions is expected.  Athletes must attend at least 60% of the training sessions each month.

Program goals: Athletes will learn to train to compete with the focus remaining on quality performance over quantity of lengths.  Athletes will continue to develop their aquatic athleticism and stroke exercise quality will be improved.  Successful competition at the LSC championship level.

Equipment: Swim suit, goggles, fins, front mount snorkel, “hand size” paddles (small).

Challenge:

Requirements: 7th grade or older and have not met the requirements for Osprey Black, Junior or Senior programs.

Program goals: Vary by athlete.  Some athletes will be focused on attaining the Black, Junior or Senior group requirements.  Others will enjoy the benefits of swim training while focusing on other activities.

Equipment: Swim suit, googles, fins, front mount snorkel, hand size paddles, tempo trainer.

Osprey Black:

Requirements: 6th- 8th grade and have a successful history in competitive swimming training and racing and have at least 1 National “BB” time standard for the 11-12 age group.  Regular attendance at meets is expected.  Athletes must attend at least 70% of the available training sessions each month.

Program Goals: Although training will be vigorous, quality of performance will be emphasized over effort or speed.  Successful competition at the LSC Champs level with an eye towards successful competition at NW Regionals.

Equipment: Swim suit, goggles, short fins, front mount snorkel, hand size paddles, tempo trainer.

Junior:

Requirements: 7th – 9th grade and have a successful history in competitive swimming training and racing and have at least 1 National “A” time standard for the 13- 14 age group.  Regular attendance at meets is required.  Athletes must attend at least 80% of the available training sessions each month.

Program goals: Long term development is still the focus and athlete goals should be to swim in college.  Short term goals would be consistent finalist at LSC champs and qualifying for Regional and Sectional competitions.

Equipment: Swim suit, goggles, short fins, long fins, front mount snorkel, hand size paddles, tempo trainer.

Senior:

Requirements: 9th grade and older with a successful history in competitive swimming training and racing and have at least 1 National “A” time standard for the 15- 16 age group.  Athletes must attend 80% of the available training sessions each month.

Program goals: Athletes will be preparing for a successful transition from club swimming to college swimming.  Successful competition in Sectional and Regional competitions with the goal of qualifying for USAS Junior Nationals.

Equipment: Swim suit, goggles, short fins, long fins, font mount snorkel, hand size paddles, stroke specific paddles, tempo trainer.
