For the 2020 Fall/Winter Season, we will not be holding Swim Clinics. All Tryouts will be conducted as private tryouts between the interested swimmer and a JETS Coach. During the private tryout, swimmers will be evaluated for group placement in preparation for the opening of registration. To prepare for the tryout, swimmers should be able to swim 25 yards of Freestyle (front crawl) and 25 yards of Backstroke comfortably and without stopping. Swimmers need to be able to swim with their face in the water for freestyle, as well. Additionally, swimmers should be at least familiar with Breaststroke and Butterfly.
If you missed our Open Tryout Days and would like your child to tryout, contact Coach Ashleigh (firstname.lastname@example.org) to make arrangements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is my child ready for the JETS?
Children should be comfortable and confident in the water being able to swim 25 yards (length of the pool) and swimming with their face in the water. They, also, need to be able to swim 25 yards Backstroke. Both lengths of the pool need to be swum without stopping.
What should I bring?
Your child should bring a swimsuit (a one-piece suit for girls is required if they join the team), towel, and goggles. Girls and boys with long hair should wear a swim cap.
Do I have to be a YMCA member?
Swimmers do not need a YMCA membership to do the Private Tryout, however, swimmers must be full members of the Joliet YMCA in order to register for the JETS swim team. You can find complete information about the Joliet YMCA, its mission, facilities, programs and schedules at www.jolietymca.org.
Do I have to attend every practice?
You do not have to come every day. Likewise, if you join the team, there is no attendance requirement except for our advanced high school levels, and swim meet participation is optional.
Is financial assistance available?
At the YMCA, no one is turned away for the inability to pay. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify. Families who submit an application may qualify for a discount up to 75% off both membership fees and JETS program fees, depending on income. For more information and to download an application, visit the Joliet YMCA website.
