Group Descriptions

The Tiger Sharks Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Tiger Sharks Swim Team to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of their abilities.

Developmental Age Group Team

Swimmers in our beginning groups are expected to arrive at practice ready to listen, learn, and have fun.  The goal of these groups is to teach competitive swimming basics ranging from proper stroke technique to dry land basics to mental preparation for races.  Before reaching our Top Age Groups, our coaching staff prepares each swimmer with the training and racing tools to allow each swimmer the opportunity to reach their full potential as they grow as people and Tiger Shark swimmers.

 

Pre-Competitive

A great way to introduce your swimmer to competitive swimming. This group is targeted for new swimmers. It is designed to bridge the gap between swim lessons and competitive swimming. Swimmers must be able to complete 25 yards of freestyle (front crawl) and 25 yards of backstroke. Competition will be held intra-squad towards the end of the season. Practice is offered three times a week, when possible, for an hour. For ages 6 and older.

Required equipment: Suit, Goggles, Cap (if hair covers the eyes)

Novice

Novice offers swimmers the opportunity to progress from pre-competitive to competitive swimming. Swimmers must be able to complete 25 yards of all four competitive strokes. Practice is offered three to four times a week, when possible, for at least an hour. For ages 6 years and older.

Required Equipment: Suit, Goggles, Cap (if hair covers the eyes)

Developmental 2

Developmental 2 offers swimmers the chance to learn the training basics of competitive swimming- including introduction to interval training, goal setting, and individual medley training. Swimmers must demonstrate legal technique in all four competitive strokes and the ability to perform racing dives and turns to be placed in this group. Practice is offered three to four times a week, when possible, for at least an hour. For ages 7 years and older.

Developmental 1

Developmental 1 offers swimmers the chance to further improve their aerobic capacity, develop race strategy, and be introduced to distance swimming and dry land training. Practice is offered four to five times a week, when possible, for at least one hour. Swimmers in this group are expected to attend practice regularly, display a strong desire to reach our Top Age Group Team, and obtain Championship time standards. For ages 8 years and older.

Top Age Group Team (TAG Team)

TAG Team swimmers are expected to understand interval training, basics of dry land training, and goal setting. Swimmers in these groups must demonstrate maturity to goal set, work on mental imagery, and a commitment to train at this level. Additionally, swimmers must have legally completed 100 yards of each stroke, 200 IM, and 200 Freestyle within the time standards set forth by the coaching staff. TAG swimmers will perform dry land training to complement our water workouts and have very strict meet and practice attendance requirements that must be followed.

 

TAG 2

Tag 2 swimmers need to show commitment and desire to reach Regional and/or State level championship meets. Practice is offered five to six times a week, when possible, up to two hours in length. For ages ten and older with considerable swimming experience.

Required Equipment- Training fins, Pull Buoy, Competitive Snorkel

TAG 1

Tag 1 swimmers need to show a commitment and desire to reach Regional and/or State level championship meets. Practice if offered five to eight times a week, when possible, up to two and a half hours in length. For ages eleven and older with considerable swimming experience.

Required Equipment- Training fins, Pull Buoy, Hand Paddles, Snorkel, Drag Suit

 

Senior Team

Senior 2

Senior 2 is a comprehensive group for high school swimmers training towards high school season. Swimmers are encourage to participate in all USA Swimming hosted meets to work towards Regional and/or State level championship meets. Practice is offered five to eight times a week, when possible, up to two hours in length. For swimmers entering high school and older.

Required Equipment- Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles, Competitive Snorkel, Power Bags (size light or medium), PPD Drag Suit, Mesh Bag

 

Senior 1

Senior 1 is for upper level athletes. This training group is geared toward local, regional, and national competition. Swimmers must have coach's approval and be willing to travel and compete in national level meets. Swimmers will be entered in all PPD hosted and championship meets. Practices are offered six to ten times per week, when possible, up to three hours in length. For swimming entering high school and older.
