Evaluations serve not only as a way to place swimmers in groups and lanes, but also to measure growth over your Piranhas career. Our coaches are invested in improving swimmers, we want to know how we are doing! The decision made by the coaching staff during evaluations is final. These are not tryouts, evaluations serve as group and lane placement. The mission of Piranhas is to safely include anyone and everyone ready for the swim team.
Intrinsic motivation is important to the Piranhas’ coaching staff. Therefore, swimmers select the group they are being evaluated for. We want to see swimmers willing to challenge themselves and push beyond their perceived limits. Selecting an evaluation for a higher group does not guarantee placement in the next lowest group. Below are the specific components of each group's evalualtion.
Piranhas’ Bridge - Bridge evaluations will occur in the Family Pool. Swimmers will complete a 200yd warm up, then 4 x 25yd I.M. Order @ :45, followed by 4 x 50yd Freestyle @ 1:30.
Age Group - Age Group evaluations will be in the Family Pool. Swimmers will complete a 300yd warm up, then 4 x 50yd I.M. Order @ 1:00, followed by 5 x 50yd Freestyle @ :50.
Intermediate Group - Intermediate Group evaluations will be in the Competition Pool. Swimmers will complete a 400yd warm up, then 10 x 100yd Freestyle @ 1:40.
Senior Group - Senior Group evaluations will be conducted in the Competition Pool. Swimmers will complete a 500yd warm up, then 10 x 100yd Freestyle @ 1:20.
Mid-Season Transfer Between Groups – With coaches approval, and athletes ability, the Piranhas allow mid-season transfer between groups. Depending on the training cycle and current month this may not be feasible for the athlete. We want to challenge swimmers! However, as an example, moving from Age Group to Intermediate Group in February would not be in the athlete’s best interest.
