The USA Swimming Official
Just as the sport of age group competitive swimming can be an exciting endeavor for your children, it can also be an exciting opportunity for you as a parent as a USA Swimming certified official.
The health of a swim club relies heavily on the time and effort given by parents who become officials. Club swim meets can’t operate without a strong core of officials from that club. It’s vital to the existence of the club to have officials to operate their meets.
Becoming a USA Swimming official can be a rewarding endeavor with numerous benefits including, being on deck close to the action, the camaraderie of fellow officials, an opportunity to advance from level to level, and the enjoyment of serving for the benefit of the club and its members.
USA Swimming officials are among the most highly-trained officials in amateur sports. With a solid reputation for education and training, Officiating makes you integrally involved in your child’s sport; knowing the rules and how swim meets operate. USA Swimming officials are certified to officiate at most USA Swimming age group meets nationwide with the opportunity to pursue advanced certification for national-level meets.
Most new officials begin their career as a Stroke and Turn official or an Admin official. The first step is to attend a clinic in your area followed by an online exam and apprenticeship sessions.
BBSC’s resident expert is Jay Watson. Jay is a fully certified USA Swimming referee and NCAA official with national-level credentials.
