The Carmel Swim Club’s training group structure is designed for every athlete’s long-term development. The overall goal of the Carmel Swim Club’s group placement is to develop skill proficient athletes who are able to advance their training and competitive swimming career through consistent practice and competitive events.
For group placement, we take into consideration the best interest of the athlete, the athlete’s family and the integrity of the various training groups at Carmel Swim Club. Multiple factors are in place to allow the Carmel Swim Club coaching staff the ability to maintain group integrity and allow a thoughtful, athlete driven advancement curve that ensures long term athlete development. We look to place athletes in the middle of the next training group, rather than the bottom. We believe this allows athletes to thrive in their new group, not just survive. This looks different for every athlete, so their individual needs are our top priority when considering group placement.
Some of the key factors we consider are: age, coachability, time management skills, confidence level, level of commitment to practice attendance and competition expectations, training group effort and behavior (listening to the coach’s instructions, not disrupting practice, encouraging their teammates, and giving appropriate effort during practice), completing all practice sets on prescribed intervals, lane leadership, attending swim meets, meet times, swimming prescribed events, independence and self-reliance, psychological maturity level, physiological needs, and competitive maturity.
Ultimately, group placements are done at the coaching staff’s discretion. Trust in the coach’s decision to do what is best for your athlete. We expect and appreciate your support.
