Practice Groups

Practice groups are organized by the ability and commitment level of the athlete. All swimmers must be able to complete one length of the pool (25 yards) of both freestyle and backstroke to be on the team.

·         Colt - 6-12 – Group focus is stroke technique, stroke development, learning starts and turns, competitive meet procedures and having fun with swimming. Swimmers in this group are working to achieve Regional Qualifying Times.

·         Pony - 9-10 – Continued stroke development and progression are the underlying foci of the Pony group. Training sets are introduced to challenge and increase the fitness of the athletes.  This group is working to achieve Regional and Age Group State Qualifying Times.

·         Mustang - 9-14 – The Mustangs Group will continue to build technical stroke competence as well as promote a progressive training focus.  Athletes in this group will be working toward Regional, Age Group, and Zone Qualifying Times.

.       Mavericks--9-14 - , The Maverick Group is made up of the top Age Group swimmers in the program. Athletes will be selected for this group by the head coach on the following criteria:  Attendance, Attitude, Technical Ability, and Training Ability.  Swimmers in the Maverick Group are expected to attend all training sessions that are offered. Athletes will work toward placing Top 16 at the Age Group Championship Level as well as pursue Zone, Sectional, and National Top 10 Recognition.

Junior Group--Entering High School--Currently on the HS Frosh/Soph or JV Roster--The Junior group is made up of swimmers in high school or entering high school. Junior swimmers will have 7 practices per week with three of those practices being dryland. Junior swimmers will be working on the fitness, technique and strength components to be ready for the High School swim season and progress to the Varsity level

·         Senior Groups – 11 & Over –The Senior Group is the Highest Level group at Barrington Swim Club. This group is made up of swimmers in high school as well as Age Group swimmers who are ready to train at the National Level. Swimmers in the Senior Group are expected to attend all training sessions that are offered for their respective level. Senior swimmers will have between  9 and 10 practices per week with a dynamic dryland program four days per week.  Senior Group members will work to achieve Senior Championship, Sectional, Junior National, Senior National, and Olympic Trials Qualifying Times.
