History

During the mid-70's, year-round age group swim teams were founded out of both New Trier West and New Trier East High Schools.  These teams (which were not USA-Swimming teams) swam in a local league that included the WSO age group team, Schaumburg, Palatine, and a few others, and were filled with predominately pre-high-school-age swimmers.

The New Trier West and New Trier East merged in the 1982-83 school year, and so the Piranhas (West) and Green Wave (East) became one New Trier Swim Club consisting of about 200 swimmers.

The New Trier Swim Team (now New Trier Aquatics) became a USA-Swimming team within the next couple of years and placed as high as 15th at JO's in the 80's.

Numbers started climbing consistently through the 1990's, and by the turn of the century NTA was a top-10 team in the state with a solid 300 swimmers and a healthy number of high school swimmers.

The 2000's has seen NTA become a consistent top-5 team in the state with 1st place finishes at JO's in 2004 (LC) and 2005 (SC), and at Senior State in 2003 (LC) and 2004 (LC). The team also has had athletes participate at Olympic Trials in 2004, 2008, 2012 & 2016.

In 2016, with a change to CEO/Parent Board Model, the team expanded to include Masters and Water Polo, increasing in overall community impact to over 550 athletes of all ages, abilities and interests.
