Officiating Incentives

THT Officiating Incentives

Officials are a critical component of running swim meets...a meet cannot run without them! To become an official, one must become certified by our Indiana Swimming (our Local Swim Committee, or LSC).  The certification process involves becoming a non-athlete member of USA Swimming, attending a clinic (which THT hosts usually twice per year), completing online testing (open-book), and then completing a short apprenticeship.  The first incentive to becoming an official is THT pays all costs towards certification.  The remaining incentives are as follows:

  • For HOME and AWAY meets:
    • Officials are granted free entry to the meet for the session they are working
    • Meals are provided for most invitationals (no meals at time trials)
  • For HOME meets only:
    • Stroke/Turn officials working at least 3 of 5, 4 of 6, or 5 of 7 sessions of a home invitational are credited the meet entry fees for one swimmer
    • Starters working at least 3 of 5, 4 of 6, or 5 of 7 sessions of a home invitational are credited meet entry fees for all swimmers in the family
    • Referees working at least 3 of 5, 4 of 6, or 5 of 7 sessions of a home invitational are credited meet entry fees for all swimmers in the family and 1 month of dues
    • All officials volunteering for a time trial will be credited for meet entry fees for the family

Much more information about becoming an official can be found on Indiana Swimming's website and USA Swimming's website.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email Jerrilynn Bayless.
