The South Louisiana Swim Team currently provides several training groups for children. Level placement is at the discretion of the coaches and is dependent upon mental maturity, physical maturity, work ethic, attitude, skill capability, speed, age, and other circumstances i.e. school schedule. Our Competition Team is divided in to 3 groups:
Prep-Competition Team, Junior Competition Team, Senior Competition Team
Each group is more full defined below and placement in each group is skill based, developmental based and at the discretion of the coach. All families in the competition team are required to volunteer at meets and events. They are also required to participate in our annual team fundraiser, the SWIM A THON.
Prep-Comp team: This group is for children 6-11 with competency in the four strokes. Swimmers practice 3 days a week and are encouraged to compete in monthly competitions. One meet per season is required. Prep competion swimmers are being prepared for our Junior competition team by being exposed to aerobic training, anaerobic exercises, dry land / conditioning activities and race strategy. Nutrition, meditation, goal-setting, visualization and team-building are also incorporated into the curriculum for these swimmers. Group requirements: Can swim 4x50 free on 1:30, legal in all four strokes, excellent listening skills.
Junior Competition team This group is for swimmers 7-13 with competency in the four strokes, the ability to use the pace clock, marked self-control and listening skills, and time standards determined by the Head Coach. Junior Blue swimmers practice 3-4 days a week and must compete in 3 meets per season including the appropriate Championship meet. Their practices are technique oriented with a greater focus on aerobic training, anaerobic training, race strategy and dry land / conditioning exersises. Nutrition, meditation, goal-setting, visualization and team-building are also incorporated into the Junior Blue curriculum. Group requirements: Can swim 6x50 free on :55, solid work ethic, excellent listening skills.
Senior competition team This level is for competitive swimmers typically aged 12-18 that are committed to swimming at least 4-5 days a week and are interested in pursuing swimming as a main athletic focus. Senior swimmers practices are two hours, and include nutrition education, dry land/conditioning exercises, stretching, mental preparation, meditation, goal setting and team building exercises. Seniors are expected to compete in the monthly competitions with SLST and are encouraged to pursue their swimming goals, seek aquatic jobs, pursue swimming scholarships and to participate in national meets. Group requirements: 8x50 freestyle on :45 , solid work ethic, leadership qualities, excellent behavior.
Master: This group is for adults of all levels who are interested in the benefits of swimming for either exercise, triathlons, or swim competition. Masters swimmers work with their instructor to set challenging yet realistic goals, improve technique and endurance, and build self-esteem. Master swimmers are invited to compete in Masters' meets as representatives of the South Louisiana Swim Team.
