The cost for the 2018 Zone Team is $475 for 11-14 year olds and $75 for 10U.
Included in the fee for 11-14 year olds is the hotel, transportation to and from Geneva and all sessions of the meet, food, meet entry fees, 4 shirts, 1 pair of shorts, and 3 latex caps.
10U swimmers will have two options for their zone experience. The first option costs $75 and this will cover the meet entry fees, 3 shirts, 1 pair of shorts, and 3 latex caps. The swimmer will be under the care of their parents and will be responsible for their own hotel, food, and transportation. The second option will be for the full zone experience. Under this option, the swimmer will get everything that the 11-14 year olds receive, including staying with a roommate in the hotel / riding the bus / all food. In order for this to be an option, we need to have two swimmers of a gender and a volunteer parent chaperone. Please contact the zone chair before signing up for the second option so that we can determine the interest level.
How does my swimmer qualify to be on the zone team?
Swimmers must be ages 14 & under, registered with USA Swimming in one of the participating LSCs, and have achieved AAA qualifying times. See below for the time standards. The time must have been achieved between August 3, 2017 and July 29, 2018.
Is my 11-14 zone qualifier required to travel and stay with the team?
Yes. Per Lake Erie policy, all swimmers who wish to compete for the Lake Erie Zone Team are required to travel and stay with the team for the duration of the meet. Every swimmer will remain under the care of the zone team for the entire meet. Parents may not take their swimmer from the team at any point.
What if my child has food allergies?
Please contact Marie Brilmyer at email@example.com to discuss your food options.
Does my swimmer need any money?
No. Everything that you will need during your stay with the team is covered by your zone fees including food, hotel, and transportation. However, if your swimmer wishes to purchase and Central Zone apparel at the meet, this is not covered by the team. They may also want to bring a small amount for any unplanned incidentals.
Will my swimmer be on a relay and if so, when will they find out?
Each zone team is allowed 2 relay teams per event. Coaches will pick the relay swimmers based on a variety of factors including best times and performance at the zone meet. Relay swimmers won't be announced until the day of the relay event.
Do I need to buy any extra apparel beyond what the team provides?
All extra apparel is optional. Swimmers are not allowed to wear any club team apparel. If any extra clothes are packed for the weekend, please make sure that they are generic. The website for extra apparel orders is https://aquaticoutfittersofohio.com/pages/lake-erie-zones. Please contact Aquatic Outfitters if you have any questions and they will be at some meets this summer with sample apparel items for the swimmers to try on.
How many swimmers are in a room?
Generally, there are two swimmers to a room. However, some rooms will require 3 swimmers depending on the number of swimmers that qualify compared to the number of rooms reserved at the hotel. Swimmers may request a roommate but it will only be guaranteed if each swimmer has the other listed as their first choice and they aren't last minute qualifiers (as we have to fit last minute qualifiers into rooms as space dictates).
My swimmer qualified for one event. Will he/she be eligible for bonus events?
If a LSC has no qualifiers or fewer than 2 qualifiers in an event, the LSC may enter up to 2 swimmers maximum in that event. It is up to the head coach to determine which swimmers will be entered should the team not have 2 qualifying swimmers. This will not be determined until after the Lake Erie Long Course Champs.
I have a 10 & under swimmer. 10 & unders do not compete on Sunday. Do they need to plan to be there Sunday?
No. 10 & Under swimmers do not need to come to the meet on Sunday. However, it is expected that they attend all the other 10 & under sessions, even if they do not have an event that day, to cheer on their teammates.
