TRAINING GROUPS, PRACTICE SCHEDULE, & FEES
All swimmers will be registered for our year-round program. This includes the short course season from September-March, spring training from April-June, and long course from June-July. Summer practices will be held at the City Y, County Pool, and/or Millersville and will be available for all training groups.

Registration opens August 10th for returning members only. Registration will open to new members on August 20th if space is available.
MINI TEAM (1 practice/week)
The Mini Team is a developmental program for 8 & under swimmers who aren’t ready for the Foundational group.
Evaluation Criteria: Swimmers must be able to complete 50 yards freestyle and 25 yards backstroke.
FOUNDATIONAL (3 practices/week)
Foundational swimmers are age 10 & under and have minimal competitive experience. The goal of this group is to build a strong foundation of swimming skills and a love of the sport. The focus is on stroke development and fun!
Evaluation Criteria: Swimmers must be able to complete 100 yards of freestyle with good breathing and 25 yards of backstroke. Swimmers must demonstrate a working knowledge of breaststroke and butterfly.
JUNIOR COMPETITIVE (4 practices/week)
Junior Competitive swimmers are between the ages of 9 and 12 and have some competitive experience. The goal of this group is to further the development of all four strokes as well as starts & turns. The focus of this group is on stroke mechanics and conditioning.
Evaluation Criteria: Swimmers must be able to complete 200 yards of freestyle and 25 yards of backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Swimmers must be able to dive and demonstrate a working knowledge of a freestyle flip turn.
COMPETITIVE (5 practices/week)
Competitive swimmers are between the ages of 11 and 14 and they have significant competitive experience. The goal of this group is to become a strong competitor in all four strokes. This group will have more challenging workouts with a focus on preparation for advanced competition.
Evaluation Criteria: Swimmers must be able to complete 300 yards of freestyle and 50 yards of backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. They must also swim 5 x 100’s freestyle on an interval of 1:45 or faster.
HIGH SCHOOL/NATIONAL TEAM (7practices/week)
The High School/National Team is for high school age swimmers. The goal of this group is to prepare swimmers for success in their high school program and the YMCA and/or USA Swimming circuit. This group will focus on refining stroke mechanics and increasing training intensity. They will also have supervised strength training 2-3 days per week. National level swimmers will be expected to swim year-round and maintain 80% attendance or higher.
Evaluation Criteria: Swimmers must be able to complete 500 yards of freestyle and 50 yards of backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. They must also swim 8 x 100’s on an interval of 1:30 or faster.
These fees are program fees and do not include a Y membership. All swimmers must be Y members when the YMCA opens. Information about Y memberships can be found here: https://lancasterymca.org/join/. An additional $75 is due at the time of registration.

Fees will be paid monthly from September-June.
Families with two or more swimmers will have 10% deducted for each additional swimmer. The deduction applies to the swimmer training at the lowest level.
Families are responsible for the entire balance of the season that they committed to regardless of swimmer attendance. Swimmers who withdrawal from the program for medical reasons must submit a doctor’s excuse.
Families are required to volunteer as needed at our YMCA meets as well as assist in the operation of the Lancaster YMCA Summer Storm.
- Swimmers are required to participate in three YMCA meets and the YSCAP league championship meet.
- Swimmers who qualify for Districts, States, and Nationals are required to attend.
- Participation in USA Swimming meets is optional.
