Jeremy Byrne - Head Coach
Jeremy Byrne steps into the Head Coaching role after 3 successful years as RAC's Head of USA Swimming. Prior to RAC Jeremy spent two years as the Head Age Group Coach for the Baldwin Swim Club. He has also spent time at the Baldwin School as part of the school's athletic faculty and coached at both the Middle School and High School level. In addition, he works as the Head Coach for the Stony Lane Swim Cub. Stony Lane is a summer swim team that belongs to the Suburban Swim League. Before joining Baldwin, Jeremy was the Head Age Group Coach and Head Masters Coach for Friends' Central Aquatics. Jeremy has coached in 3 different LSCs (MW, WYO, MA), worked with swimmers at all levels of competition (Swim Lesson to Olympic Trials), and brings a diverse and unique perspective to the program.
Jeremy graduated from the University of South Dakota where he double majored in English and Fine Arts. While in college, Jeremy was a member of the USD Men’s Swim Team. Jeremy currently resides in Downingtown with his wife, son and two daughters.
Billy Gordon – Head of USA Swimming
Before coming to Radnor Aquatic Club, Billy coached at ACST in West Chester for 5 years (3 years as the assistant coach and 2 as the head coach). As the head coach, he helped develop a pre-team and high school clinic which helped raise the number of athletes in the program by over 50%. Billy has coached novice swimmers to Speedo Sectional Qualifiers. He stresses technique based swimming, accountability of athletes, and overall pure love of the sport.
Along with ACST, Billy also coached the Unionville High School Swim Team for the past three years. This past year, the boys and girls team were both American Ches-Mont Champions, including 22 district qualifiers, 9 state qualifiers, 7 All-Americans and 5 school records.
Prior to coaching, Billy swam competitively since the age of 5. He swam for Phoenixville YMCA, Upper Main Line YMCA, and Owen J. Roberts High School. He attended East Carolina University, where he swam all 4 years, as well as earned his degree in Mathematics Education. He currently resides in borough of West Chester.
Chase Gibson - Assistant Head Coach/Girls Head Coach
Chase began coaching competitive swimming and recreational basketball in 1999 and has been a member of the RAC coaching staff since 2001. He swam for Radnor High School and Radnor Aquatic Club. Chase graduated from Villanova University School of Business with a Bachelors in Accounting and Finance & a Masters in Finance and Strategic Management. Chase is a Certified Public Accountant with Cigna Corporation in Philadelphia.
Matt Stewart - Assistant Coach
Matt has been a member of the RAC coaching staff since 2002. He served as the head coach at Aronimink Swim Club (in Drexel Hill) from 1995 - 2012. He has also been the head coach of the Girls' and Boys' Swimming/Diving team at Haverford High School since 2007. He swam scholastically for Malvern Prep from 1988 - 1994. Matt has a B.S. in Mathematics from Penn State University, and an M.S. in Instructional Technology from Philadelphia University. He has been a mathematics teacher at Haverford High School since 1998. Matt is a member of the American Swim Coaches' Association (ASCA), and he has earned Level 3 Education status for ASCA.
Jo-Ann Johnson - Head Dive Coach
Jo-Ann brings unprecedented technical diving and coaching expertise to our team. She has coached diving for the last 27 years for a combination of summer clubs, high school teams, US Diving age group teams and collegiate teams.
As a young child, Jo-Ann dove for the Vesper Club in Philadelphia. As a young adult, Jo-Ann attended the University of Pennsylvania where she dove for four years. She was undefeated during her tenure at U-Penn and was the Eastern League champion four years in a row. On a personal note, Jo-Ann loves to cook and hates computers.
Tanya Curtis - Head Developmental Coach
Tanya has been providing swim instruction since she was 15 years old. As a child, she swam for UMLY for 8 years and the Pennypacker Country Club for 10 years. She recently graduated from Temple University with a degree in Kinesiology and with a teaching certification in Health and Physical Education. She also has a degree in Recreational Management. She specialized in therapeutic recreation and worked at a psychiatric hospital for children during the first few years of her career. Tanya will be working as an assistant coach with all levels of our swimmers. She will be the primary coach for our Barracuda and Piranha squads.
Doug Nowak - Assistant Coach/Boys Head Coach
Doug has been a coach with RAC since 2006. Prior to joining RAC he attended West Chester University where he swam for 4 years and coached for one year. After graduating from WCU in 2005 with a Teacher Certification in Health and Physical Education, he was hired by Radnor Elementary School and has been teaching in Radnor ever since. Doug also swam for Radnor High School from 1996 – 2000 and is currently the Radnor High School Diving Coach.
Mary Beth Ryan - Assistant Coach
Mary Beth Bonner-Ryan swam competitively for Finnegan's Swim Club in Philadelphia, with Backstroke as her primary stroke. In college, she was a voice/music major and uses those skills as a professional cantor and as the lead vocalist in an Irish band. She was the head bronze coach at the Haverford Swim Club and has been a coach with RAC since 2005. In addition to her role as the mother of 3 swimmers, Mary Beth is a licensed realtor with Prudential Fox & Roach in Newtown Square and a water aerobics instructor at Cabrini College.
Ruth Small - Assistant Coach
Ruth Small has coached at the Upper Main Line YMCA, Baldwin, and Martins Dam. Most recently she coached the Radnor Girls High School team. She is thrilled to be part of the RAC staff.
Katie Pulos - Assistant Coach
Katie has coached several swim teams since 2007, and re-joined the RAC coaching staff in the summer of 2012. An 11-year veteran of Radnor Aquatic Club swimming, Katie graduated from Radnor HS in 2008, where she was team captain and a school record holder. Katie swam for Penn State University from 2008 to 2012, where she competed in the sprint freestyle events. She was an All-American and school record holder in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, as well as a Big Ten Champion in the 400 freestyle relay. Katie recently graduated from PSU with a degree and teaching certification in Elementary Education. Katie is also an assistant coach for the Radnor HS Girls’ Swim Team and a summer swim team coach at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square.
Julie Street - Assistant Coach
Julie joins the RAC coaching staff in 2014. She has served as an assistant coach with Stony Lane Swim Club since 2006, and has coached various soccer teams and camps in the area. Julie swam for Harriton High School and graduated with honors from Penn State in 2010 with a B.S. in Finance. She is a financial manager with AmeriGas Propane in King of Prussia.
Pat Maguire - Assistant Coach
Patrick Maguire joined the RAC coaching staff in 2017. Pat swam for Radnor Aquatic Club for 8 years and Aronimink Swim Club for 9 years. He was a four year swimmer at Haverford High School and was a team captain his senior year. Pat started coaching at Aronimink Swim Club in 2011 and is now the head coach at Philadelphia Country Club. Pat has also been a assistant coach at Haverford High School since 2014.
Brooke Hagan - Assistant Coach
Brooke joined the RAC coaching staff in 2017. She swam for the Ridley YMCA for 11 years and Ridley High School, where she graduated from in 2014. Brooke is a senior at Cabrini University majoring in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. She is a member of the Cabrini Swim Team where she specializes in the distance freestyle events, butterfly and IM. In 2015 she was the 200 fly Allegheny Mountain Conference champion. Brooke coached at Glenolden Swim Team for 3 years and is looking forward to coaching with RAC.
Margaret Fisher - Assistant Dive Coach
Margaret Fisher joins RAC as the Assistant Dive Coach. Currently, she also works as the Head Dive Coach for Strath Haven High School during the winter months and as the Dive Coach for the Hidden Hollow Hammerheads and the Assistant Dive Coach for the Knowlton Swim Club during the summer months. Prior to this she was the Dive Coach for Springfield High School and the Primos-Secane Swim Club.
In addition to her coaching work, Margaret is experienced as both a dive meet referee and judge. As a student she dove for Upper Darby High School and the Primose-Secane Swim Club.
