PARENT-TODDLER CLASSES

This is an introductory swim school class. Age range is 6 month to 3 years. The parent toddler class will introduce your child to the water with a parent guiding them through every in-water activity. The goal of this class is to create a safe and fun environment for your child to learn movements in the water, learn to float on their back and stomach, and place their face in the water. The main goal of this class is for the toddler to be able to roll onto their back with the help of a parent or instructor, become comfortable being with an instructor in a group environment, put their faces in the water to blow bubbles, and enjoy the water while performing these skills.  When the child is secure enough to not need the parent close by, and are able to follow directions, they will be ready to for the Blue Fish class.

BLUE FISH (Beginner)

This group is for first time swimmers who do not have much experience in the water, are not able to swim on their own and need assistance from the instructor. They may or may not have had prior swim lessons and it may be the first time in the water without their parents. Our instructors will work with your children by using creative games, drills and equipment so that they become comfortable blowing bubbles in the water, going underwater, stream line kicking, floating on their back and having fun while learning to swim. The goal for the Blue Fish is to be able to put their entire body underwater, perform a back float, and a front float with little to no assistance from the instructor, use a “flutter” kick for forward propulsion and understand the beginning arm motions thru the water. Once the Blue Fish masters these skills they will be ready to move on to becoming a White Fish.

They are able to put their face in the water, blow bubbles, can perform a back float with minimal assistance, a front float and displays forward locomotion thru flutter kicking on their front and back. Swimmers will be introduced to the building blocks of freestyle and backstroke with the goal to be able to complete 1 lap of the pool in this manner. Breaststroke and butterfly concepts are also taught in this class once freestyle and backstroke are comfortably displayed.  A swimmer may be at this level for multiple sessions in order to develop the skills and physical conditioning needed to progress.

These swimmers can currently swim freestyle and backstroke for one length of the pool, can perform a flutter kick on their back and front (in streamline) and have rudimentary skills in butterfly and breaststroke. Swimmers are introduced to all 4 competitive strokes, kicking and stroke drills encountered within the SSC competitive team environment, and should be able to complete 1 lap of each stroke. PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS  (All ages and abilities)

Private swim lessons are for families who would like their swimmer to work in a one swimmer to one instructor environment.  SSC offers these lessons for the beginner swimmer and for more advanced competitive swimmers looking for stroke and turn refinement. SSC will pair your swimmer with an appropriate coach/instructor and you will work directly with the instructor to set up lesson times.  Private swim lessons do not follow the group lesson session schedule (each private lesson is arranged with the instructor), and are purchased in packages of seven, 30-minute lessons.
