USA Swimming Clubs and LSC All-Star groups have the opportunity to train at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs (6350 ft. elevation).
When space is available, the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs provides housing, meals and a 50 meter pool to qualified swim teams and their coaches.
Applications should be submitted at least six months, preferably one year, prior to training dates requested. Please understand that the training facilities in Colorado Springs are shared by athletes from 37 sports and, as a result, requests for training during peak demand periods -- Spring, Summer and Christmas break -- are less likely to be approved.
Approval is granted according to a strict priority system with National Team programs and elite athletes given preference.
Our team is trying to go each fall. We have gone in 2011 and were planning on 2012, however the pool will be shut down from Sept - Jan for renovation.
The criteria for our team is as follows:
must be at least 13 at time of the trip
20 swimmers maximum
swimmers must have at least a BB long course time (all training is LC)
graduating swimmers who have not attended have first priority
remaining spots are filled based on the power point scores for the top 4 long course events of each swimmer
We are working on putting together some cost saving measures by fundraising, anyone interested in helping with this should contact Coach Jeff directly.
ZONE SELECT CAMPS
28 male and 28 female athletes are selected in each of the four Zones.
Selected girls must be age 12-13 at the time of performance.
Selected boys must be age 13-14 at the time of performance
15 athletes of each sex are selected based on Long Course Meters (LCM) IMX point scores according to the following:
Eight girls age 12 and eight boys age 13
Seven girls age 13 and seven boys age 14
Then, the fastest swimmer in each Zone in each Long Course Meters (LCM) Olympic event (excluding the 50 free, including the 800 and 1500 for both sexes) is invited for a total of 13 additional male and 13 additional female athletes. If a swimmer was already selected based on IMX score, the next fastest swimmer is selected in that event.
DIVERSITY SELECT CAMP
Each spring, USA Swimming invites 36 athletes from underrepresented populations to participate in a three-day camp program which includes pool training, motivational and education sessions and team-building activities. Selection is based on times swum at USA Swimming sanctioned events.
Athletes must have achieved at least one Diversity Select Camp time standard as shown here (SCY and/or LCM) to apply for selection. These times are AAAA National Motivational Times for 13-14 year olds. Times must have been achieved in a USA Swimming sanctioned or approved meet (able to be proven in the SWIMS database).
14 – 16 years of age. Age is as of the first day of camp.
From the applications, the athlete with the fastest time in each of the 13 Olympic events will automatically be selected. Priority will be given to athletes with long course times but short course times will be considered using power point scores as the basis of comparison. Three athletes of each sex will be selected based on IMX scores. Two additional athletes of each sex will be selected based on outstanding performance in one or more events.
OPEN WATER SELECT CAMP
USA Swimming offers 24 of the country's best distance swimmers the opportunity for a unique motivational and educational experience. The National Open Water Camp is an integral step for athletes to move from the pool to Open Water and then to the international scene.
8 male and 8 female athletes will be selected off of the top 2011 times in the Swims database in the 1500 meter freestyle. An additional 4 male and 4 female athletes will be selected off of the results of the 5K National Open Water Championships.
NATIONAL SELECT CAMP
Each fall, USA Swimming brings 60 of the top USA Swimming member athletes in the nation for a once-in-a-lifetime camp experience. Swimmers are selected from the SWIMS database of top times.
30 male and 30 female athletes shall be selected to participate in each camp. 26 athletes male/female shall be selected following the Junior National Long Course Championships based on the SWIMS database. The fastest two eligible athletes in each event will be invited. [50 free excluded] Doubles will be resolved by placing the athlete in his/her highest HY-tek power point event. 4 additional females and 4 additional males will be selected based on their individual IMX Power Point scores. The 4 highest scoring age 14-15 females, not previously selected for an individual event and the 4 highest scoring age 15-16 males, not previously selected for an individual event, will be invited. Only Long Course times will be considered. Male athletes shall be age 16 and under during the qualifying period. Female athletes shall be age 14 thru 16 during the qualifying period.
