Training Groups

In order to provide a more focused training experience, Mariner swimmers are grouped into levels based upon their age, skill level, ability to maintain average paces of the group and attendance.

Minis
Coach: Laura Groseclose
Practice schedule:

  • Tues/Thurs - 6:00pm - 7:15pm
  • Sat/Sun - 8:00am - 9:00am

Equipment needed: Water bottle and kickboard

Swimmers' ages range from 5-9 years old and must know how to do freestyle and backstroke. Swimmers in Minis have previously participated in lessons, swim school and clinics, or even summer swim teams.

Swimmers spend time refining freestyle and backstroke and are taught the basics of breaststroke and butterfly, with the goal of preparing them for either JAG I or Bronze. During practice, swimmers will be working on all of the elements of the strokes, turns, and dives through drills, on land demonstration, and repetition.

In order to move up, swimmers must swim the 100 Free, 50 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Fly, and 100 IM legally at a swim meet. A swimmer moving up is based on the decision of the entire coaching staff, space availability in either JAG I or Bronze, and swimmer ability and maturity.

**Swimmers looking for more hands-on teaching and less frequent practices should visit our Swim School.

**A swimmer moving into a different level is based on the decision of the entire coaching staff, space availability within groups, and swimmer ability and maturity.
