Age Group Training

CMA's Age Group Level Competitive Training Groups

 

Coastal Maine Aquatics offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is CMA's goal  to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of their mastery of the curriculum requirements.

 

NOVICE GROUP I -

Minimum age 8 years old.

Demonstrates the ability to perform the following skills:

Streamline on front and back, good breath control, tread water for 90sec, jump from the block and dive from the side, flutter kick on stomach with board for 50yds, flutter kick on back 50yds, swim 100yds back and free without stopping, 25yds of legal breaststroke and butterfly, understands circle swimming, can perform open turns for all strokes.

Swimmers in this group are expected to listen well and follow directions, express genuine interest in learning to swim, and understand the basic swimming terminology.

Recommended practice attendance of at least 3x/week. All home meet participation is expected. Athletes will progress to the next level at the coaches discretion. Registration is limited to 24 athletes per season. 

PRACTICES:  Practice times and length of practices change throughout the year due to availability of pool space and time.  

 

NOVICE GROUP II -  

Minimum age 9 years old.

Swimmers should have a mastery of events up through a 50 of each stroke, the 200 IM, and 200 Free. Swimmer must consistently demonstrate a desire to do well by taking the initiative to self-challenge thru performing flip turns and streamlines consistently, using the pace clock, listen and follow directions and have a positive attitude.

Recommend practice attendance of at least 4x/week. All home, local, and some travel meets expected. A goal for all Mako swimmers is to qualify for and compete in our State Championship Meet.

PRACTICES:  Practice times and length of practices change throughout the year due to availability of pool space and time.  

 

AG I - 

Minimum age 10 years old.

Ability to read and interpret sets and use pace clock. Demonstrate the ability to read heat sheets and self organize at meets. Recommended practice attendance of at least 4x/week + 2 dryland sessions. Able to bilateral breathe on freestyle. All strokes, turns, and pullouts are consistently legal. Can perform track and relay starts. Mastery of events up through a 100 of each stroke, the 200 free, 200 IM, and 500 Free. Be able to perform the following sets in practice: 10 x 50 free @ 1:00 8 x 50 kick @ 1:15, 5 x 100 free @ 1:50 and 8 x 50 IM order without breaking technique.

 All local and regional meet participation is expected. Championship attendance is required. 

PRACTICES:  Practice time and length of practices change throughout the year due to availability of pool space and time.  

 

AG II -

Minimum age 11 and over.

Have at least 2 Maine State cuts or BB times in 2 events in their age group. Can demonstrate 100s of each stroke without breaking technique. Recommended practice attendance of at least 5x/week + 2 dryland sessions.Must have a firm understanding of interval training and the ability to measure performance during practice. Has competed in all age eligible events ex: 200 fly & 400 IM. Be able to perform the following sets in practice: 10 x 100 IM @ 2:00, 12 x 50 kick @ 1:05

 All local and regional meet participation is expected. Championship attendance is required.
