Plan

As you begin the process...

  • Review the meet director's handbook available from USA Swimming.

  • Select the type of meet that you wish to run (on the published schedule, off the published schedule, or approved meet).

  • Select the dates on which you wish to host the meet. (You should select at least two potential sets of dates on which you would like to run your meet to increase the chances that your bid is approved.)

  • Determine the duration of the meet. For reference, most meets are 2.5 days (Friday PM, Saturday AM, Saturday PM Sunday AM, and Sunday PM).

  • Select a facility and ensure that an Emergency Action Plan is on file with the Michigan Swimming Operational Risk Coordinator.

  • Select a format for your meet.

If you want to run an observed meet...

If you want to run an off the published schedule meet...

  • Complete and submit (to the Meet and Sanctioning Chair) the off the published schedule meet application at least 30 days prior to the meet.

  • Await further communication from the Meet and Sanctioning Chair. You should still visit the remaining tabs listed above, but note that not all parts of the "Pre-Meet" tab will apply.

If you want to run an on the published schedule meet...

  • When announced, submit your bid to the Meet Scheduling Committee.

  • Start thinking about who you will select to serve as your Meet Referee. To help with this, see the Sanctioning Scoring Report.

  • Begin reviewing the safety requirements as set forth by Michigan Swimming and USA Swimming. These include ensuring that the facility that you will use has an up-to-date Emergency Action Plan on file with the Michigan Swimming Operational Risk Coordinator.

  • Begin reviewing the Michigan Swimming Rules and Procedures as they relate to the type of meet that you wish to run.

  • Begin reviewing the USA Swimming Rules and Regulations as they relate to the type of meet that you wish to run. Your Meet Referee can be of assistance with this.

  • Wait for the Meet Scheduling Committee to render a decision on your submitted bid. The Meet Scheduling Committee is authorized to render the following decisions:

    • Approved - Congratulations! You will be allowed to run your meet and should proceed to the "Pre-Meet" tab above.

    • Request Date Change - The committee has a reason for requesting you change the date of your meet. Additional information will be provided in the letter from the committee.

    • Denied - Additional information will be provided in the letter from the committee.
