 The MLA Growth Track

Overview:  Our program is built to encourage group advancement.  We want our athletes to feel successful!  Each group below may be divided into sub-groups as well, ensuring ideal coach-to-swimmer ratios.

The Littles! (typically ages 10 and younger)

Teaching MLA athletes entering the sport of competitive swimming a great foundation of skill development and technique in a style that can be fun and foster long-term growth in our sport.

Swimmers may compete at local, State, and Conference levels.

Red Group (typically ages 8-10 years old)

Learn to practice.  MLA athletes will progress from the fundamental skills & technique taught in "The Littles" group, and continue to build toward an advanced level of swimming.

Swimmers may compete at local, State, and Conference levels.

White Group (typically ages 11-14 years old)

An intermediate level for young swimmers that continues a heavy emphasis on stroke technique  development.  Athletes in this group will work towards preparation for making local Championships and beginning goal setting skills.

Swimmers may compete at local, State, and Conference levels.

Blue Group (typically ages 12-14 years old)

An introduction to Senior level swimming on an age-appropriate scale.  Athletes in this group will work towards having competitive local Championships and achieving standards for Zone and Sectional teams. This group is a diverse group of advanced 12-14 year old swimmers.

The Senior Group (typically ages 15-18 years old)

Age: Ages of 15-18 years old.  Exceptions are at the discretion of the MLA coaching staff.

This group is designed around swimmers with two paths in mind for our athletes: 1) athletes hoping to compete for their High School teams, and 2) athletes that have USA Swimming State finals and/or Sectional meet ambitions.  This is the first level of specialization in their careers with practices geared around their main events.  During practices, swimmers will begin to learn how to take more ownership of the trajectory of their swim careers.

High Performance Group

Advancement into this group requires a coach's recommendation.

Age: Ages may vary, swimmers must have a minimum of Speedo Sectional times and a coach's recommendation.  Exceptions are at the discretion of the MLA coaching staff.

The HP Group is our National group at MLA.  Swimmers in this group are committed to reaching their top potential of National-Level senior swimming and have ambitions of collegiate and/or USA National swimming.

Prerequisites: Entrance into MLA's HP group will be determined by swimming history, training speeds, competition results, and referral from the Head Coach.  High School swimmers will be required to join training immediately following their high school season.  Athletes in this group will be expected to begin each season in it's first week, maintain a good attempt at 90% of their workouts, and finish each season with their highest achieved Championship meet.

Goals: Training will be focused on competing at the championship level including Sectionals, Futures, Jr. Nationals, and Nationals.
