Meet our Diving Coaching Staff


Jean Luc Miralda

Coach Jean Luc Miralda reignited MLA Dive in 2017 and joined us as our Head Diving Coach.

Miralda brings to MLA a wealth of local, national and international experience as both an athlete and a coach. During his athletic career, Miralda broke and set numerous records on both 1, 3  and 10 meter events, graduated an NCAA DIII All-American and MIAA Champion. Miralda was also an Olympic hopeful for the 2016 Honduran National Diving Team.

Over the last 3 years, Michigan Lakeshore Diving has grown exponentially - producing over 50 state qualifiers in all high school divisions, multiple pool and conference record holders USA Zone and Jr. National Qualifiers, a D3 Boys State Champion and a 2021 2x NCAA DII National Champion.

Locally, JL has coached varsity teams such as West Ottawa and Holland High and is currently the Assistant Diving Coach at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI. On his first year at GV, he assisted leading the largest NCAA pre-qualified team in diving school history. In 2021, GVSU Dive set 3 Conference Event Champions, 2 Conference Divers of the year, 12-All Americans, took 2 National Championships in 1 & 3 Meter (Women) and earned both Women National Diver and Coach of the Year.




Areal Tolsma

Areal joined us for her first season at MLA Dive in 2020.

Coach Areal, joins us with 4 years of coaching experience leading Holland Christian’s Middle School and High School Boys Varsity Team. In addition, she assists with the girl’s High School and Middle School season and works jointly with Hope College as Assistant Dive Coach. 

Coach Areal serves as our Lead Coach for our White Beginner Diving! 




Rebecca Garza

Becca, joins us for her first year at MLA Dive in 2021. 

Coach Becca comes to us with a wealth of collegiate and high school coaching experience. She currently serves as Hope College's head diving coach where she has produced multiple MIAA Champions, MIAA Most Valuable Divers, and DIII National Qualifiers. 

Before moving towards Hope College, she served as the Grand Rapids Christian Head Diving Coach for both Varsity Boys and Girls from 2014 to 2017.
