Mission Statement (Revised 9/2014)
YOSC is a non-profit community based swim organization that aspires to teach, train, and motivate swimmers at all skill levels. We believe that all children should have access to swimming opportunities, and so we support two interrelated swim programs: developmental and competitive. Members of our team learn respect, goal-setting, team-building, dedication, and sportsmanship, as well as build self-confidence and character, in an atmosphere of encouragement and instruction. Most of all, our swimmers are proud of themselves and their team, and they develop strong friendships and have fun.
The YOSC was originally formed in 1960 by Bud Dornbos as a winter counterpart to the Chippewa Hills Swim and Tennis Club. It was then known as the Ypsilanti Swim Club. The club has grown in recent years to 120-170 swimmers depending on the season and currently averages 30 USS swimmers. The mascot of the YOSC is an Otter and the colors are blue and gold.
