How is my child assigned to a group and how does he/she advance to the next group?
Your child will need to be evaluated by a coach before he/she joins the Edina Swim Club. We offer 2 tryout nights a year, September and March, these are called Splash Night or Splash Day. If you would like to join mid-season, contact Julie McCarthy at email@example.com to schedule an evaluation. All group descriptions along with requirements can be found on our Athlete Info tab. You will need to click on the drop down options to see complete details per group. If you have questions about your swimmers placement anytime throughout the year, contact his/her coach directly, or our Head Coach Jeff Rodriguez or our Head Age Group Coach Nicole Helmen. There emails can be found on the Coaches page of our website.
Where can I find the practice schedule?
You will find all group calendars listed under the Calendar tab. You can view All Groups, or you can scroll down the drop down list to your athlete's calendar. You may also sync the calendar to a mobile device. When using Google Calendar, have your calendar opened on a computer (logged in), go to the group calendar you want to sync and click on the bottom right icon +Google Calendar.
How many practices per week should my child attend?
Groups recommended practices per week vary depending on the level. You can view that information in the description of each group under the Athlete Info tab. For example, to see Gator 1, 2, & 3 information, click on the Developmental tab and then click on Group Descriptions.
Why aren't practice times the same days and same times throughout the week?
The ESC uses school pools along with Edinborough Park Pool. We work with the school district and the community center to rent pool space. If there is a school event or a public event, we may not have use of the schools pool. On those days, we will do our best to find a pool for practice before we cancel that nights practice all together.
What equipment does my child need and where do I purchase it?
Each group will need specific equipment. Click here for a complete list. You may purchase equipment at Elsmore Swim Shop. They have 2 store locations, Apple Valley & Minnetonka, as well as their website for purchasing items. Label all items!
The swimming world consists of 'seasons'. Fall/winter season runs from September - March. Spring/summer season runs from April - July/August. You may register for a 'season' or the full season which would be September - July/August. See our Membership Info tab for complete details. Contact Julie McCarthy at firstname.lastname@example.org for any registration questions.
What apparel does my child need and where do I purchase it?
Your swimmer is highly encouraged to wear a team t-shirt, green EDINA swim cap, and a navy Speedo suit for meets.(consult with your coach for suit questions for the higher level meets such as WGLO, MRC, STATE) We are a 'TEAM' and teams look great on deck if everyone matches. Elsmore Swim Shop can outfit you with our gear.
The green EDINA swim caps, team water bottles, and team towels, may be purchased directly from the office. Contact Julie McCarthy at email@example.com. (Elsmore does not sell these items for us). Here is a link to our Apparel page with further details.
What are the volunteer requirements?
Volunteering is a fun way to meet other swim club families, learn more about swimming, and support our swimmers. It is also required. Please note that families not fulfilling their volunteer obligations will be charged for each missed shift. More information about volunteer requirements (including information for fall/winter or full year families) can be found on the website, Volunteer Commitment. Questions about volunteering?
