Age Group 2

Typical Ages: 11-14 years old

Pre-Requisite Skills

Complete 10 x 100 freestyle on a 1:55 interval, must be able to complete 10 x 100 IM on a 2:20 interval, and must be able to compete 10 x 100 kick on a 2:30 interval. The swimmer must be able to legally complete at least 100 yards of each stroke. The swimmer must be willing to compete in designated team competitions and should have at least five - Bronze times in their age group showing meet participation (Minnesota Swimming Time Standards)

Practice Attendance: 4 to 5 x 90 minute practices per week. 

Basic Practice Schedule:

Age Group 2 swims Monday - Friday from 6 - 7:30 PM with two dry-land sessions per week (See below calendar for up to date practice times)

DAILY PRACTICE CALENDAR

Practice Skills: While emphasis will continue to be placed on stroke technique of the 4 strokes, kicking, streamlines, breaststroke underwater pullouts, flip turns, open turns, standard and relay starts.  Further emphasis will be implemented on aerobic training. The use of clock reading becomes essential.  Introduction to longer distance races and education/use of more advanced racing skills and strategies will be employed. Progression from AG1 in dry-land/strength training will be done with heavier emphasis on core and body weight.

Meet Attendance:  At least 3 per season (plus commitment to participation in championship meet for which the swimmer is qualified).

Meet events: 100's & 200's of all strokes/disciplines.  Intro to longer distance events ie, 400 IM, 500 FR, 1000 FR, 1650 FR (if ready.)

Advancement to Junior group: Advancement from AG2 to Junior group will be technique, training, and attendance based.  Athletes should be able to complete 12 x 100 Freestyle on 1:30, 12 x 100 IM on 1:50, and 12 x 100 Kick on 2:00.  Athletes must show consistent meet attendance. 

Equipment: AG2 swimmers are required to have their own Kick Board, Pull Buoy,  Fins, Paddles, Snorkel, and mesh bag which they bring to practice daily.  A list of equipment with is listed below and can be purchased through Elsmore.
