Coach Mike began swimming in 7th grade, competing for both USA and YMCA clubs. During high school, he posted some of his state’s top times in the 100/200 butterfly. After High School, he competed in NCAA Division I Swimming.
Mike’s education credentials include USA and ASCA Level III coaching certification and post-graduate studies in Health and Exercise Science (with an emphasis in exercise physiology and training theory). Mike has been a college professor for 25 years, he teaches exercise prescription, training theory and sports periodization to exercise science majors, physical therapist and athletics coaches.
Mike started coaching in 1979 and has worked at all levels: Coaching NCAA Division I & III (22 years), high school (8 years) and club (15 years). During his coaching career, he has mentored multiple state champions, high school and collegiate All-Americans and set a USA state age group (17-18) record in the 200 butterfly (1:49.4) that has stood for over 30 years.
