The season lasts from early September through the end of July and is split into two parts. The Short Course (25yd competition) runs from September through the beginning of April. The Long Course (50 meter competition) runs from after our April break through the end of July. The Dolphin Group will conclude at the end of June. There will be a 1 - 2 week break sometime in April. The actual dates of the break, competition dates and other significant dates will be posted on the web site.
We offer between 4 - 9 practices per week, depending on which group you are assigned to. While we do not set minimum required attendance for most groups, we do encourage swimmers to attend as many practices as possible. Success in the sport of swimming is dependent upon a commitment to training and the opportunities to race. Practice attendance will be used to determine promotion to higher groups, relay participation and other incentive based initiatives.
Peekskill Senior A Group must attend a Minimum of 4 Swim and 1 Dry land Practice pr week
Beacon Senior Group must attend a Minimum of 4 Swim practices per week
We typically participate in 2 meets per month. In the early part of both the Short Course and Long course, swimmers will try to achieve qualifying times for championship meets that occur at the end of each course. The championship meets they attend will depend on their level of achievement and can encompass championship meets on the local, regional, and national levels.
The Meets we attend are very popular with other teams and tend to close out early. We pride ourselves in rarely getting closed out of a meet we wish to attend. We achieve this by getting our entries in early. Please take a look at our meet schedule, in advance, so you may identify and reserve those weekends. When we post the sign up for a particular meet please sign up immediately that we may ensure your child's participation in the meet. The meet sign up is can be reached from the "meets/events" tab or from the "events" section located under the scrolling text window.
Patriot Hosted Meets
We host several Meets per year that serve both as a team fundraiser and as an opportunity for our swimmers to race and achieve championship qualifying performances.
In the 2017-2018 Season we will be hosting 5 Meets at Lehman College, Bronx NY, 2 Meets at Beacon High School and 1 Meet at Valley Central HS. Five meets will be short course (25 yard Competition) Oct , Nov, Dec & Jan. Three meets will be long course (50 meter competition) May, June & July
We also run 1 or 2 Time Trials. A time trial is much like a regular meet, but it will take place at either the Beacon or Peekskill location, is only 1 session long and usually involves just our team, although we sometimes will invite another team to participate. A time trial is a great way to introduce brand new swimmers to racing or to provide an opportunity for swimmers to complete their IMX requirement.
We cannot host and run a meet without a significant number of volunteers. A typical Meet session requires between 25 & 30 volunteers and will last for 5 hours. Most of our meets will be 4 session meets.
Families that register anytime during the short course are required to do 11 Service Sessions per year. Those that join in the long course are responsible for 7 Service Sessions. The Team Unify site will allow volunteers to sign up for our events, track volunteer sessions and assess a fee of $50 per session for each required service session NOT worked. Sessions can also be fulfilled working Team social events, fund raisers as well as time trials. In order to receive credit for working a session, you must check in with the check in volunteer and you must work the entire session. No credit will be given for partial sessions worked. (Service Hours are NOT Required for the Peekskill Pre-Competitive Group)
In order to keep the team tuition costs down and while providing a high quality experience for the swimmers, we conduct several fundraisers each season. This years main fundraiser will be the a Swim A thon. New this year will be fundraising "credit Back." For those that participate in approved fundraising events, 25% of funds they raise will be credited directly back to your account as a tuition discount. (Fundraising credits do NOT apply to Peekskill Pre-Competitive Group)
