Swim Practice Group Definition

Senior Plus

The Senior Plus Group is for Senior Swimmers with the addition of morning swim practices from 5:30-7:00 am at the YMCA on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. 

Senior

Senior Group is primarily for our 13 and over swimmers with competitive swimming experience, who are ready for a strong training regimen.  Practices will grow increasingly more difficult as the year goes on, and focus primarily on building up endurance and strength, with most stroke work done through direct interaction with the coaches.  Stroke refinement, speed training, and aerobic training will be at the core of these practices Swimmers in this group are expected to attend practices and meets regularly and should have their eyes on end of the season cut times.

Expected Intervals:  At least 1:30 base for Freestyle and 1:40 base for IM

Expected Equipment: Fins, kick board, paddles, and pool buoy.

Gold

 

 

Gold Group is for our 10-12 year olds who have displayed strong competence in all four strokes, and are ready to be challenged aerobically in practice.  Multiple years of competitive swimming in their background is highly recommended.  Practices will primarily focus on building up endurance and strength, while continuing to refine stroke technique (done primarily through direct interaction with the coaches).  Swimmers in this group are expected to attend meets regularly, and should strive to achieve Indy qualifying times and beyond.

Expected Intervals: Be able to make at least 4 50s Free on the :50

Expected Equipment:  Fins, kick board, paddles, and pool

Green

Green Group is primarily for our 13 and over swimmers who aren’t quite ready for our Senior Groups, but are ready for a challenge beyond that which Red Group has previously offered.  Some competitive swimming experience is recommended, but displayed competence in all four strokes is more important.  Practices will focus on continued stroke development and the beginning of real endurance/aerobic training.  This group is perfect for any returning swimmers who have spent multiple years in White or Red and are ready for the next step.  Swimmers in this group are expected to attend meets regularly.

Expected Equipment: Fins and kick board.

Red

For swimmers 12 and under who have yet to attain time standards of any level. Swimmers should have a basic knowledge or all four strokes. Practices are heavy on stroke technique.

 White

For swimmers 8 and under who are looking to begin the competitive swimming experience. Swimmers are required to be capable of finishing 25 yards of both freestyle and backstroke. Primary focus is on stroke development.
