Elite Senior Group: *Practice requirements are prescribed by individualized plan; typically require minimum of 6+ practices per week
The Elite group has been nicknamed the WOLFPACK and is for athletes who have chosen swimming to be their number one sport. These athletes are ready and willing to make the sacrifices necessary to compete at the sectional and national level, and are most likely working to continue their swimming careers in the NCAA after graduation from high school. Our college athletes often continue with this group in the summer to stay at the top when they return to collegiate competition.
While many of these swimmers also represent local high school teams in the area, they work with our coaches to set an individual plan averaging six practices a week or more during the entire short course and long course seasons that is catered to their needs as scholastic and involved young people. Not only do these swimmers excel at racing at a high level, they also maintain good practice habits because they know the technique they do day in and day out at practice is the driving force in their improving performance.
The coach’s role with the Wolfpack can seem passive at times (especially compared to the younger groups that are still more technique intensive) because these elite swimmers are expected to have strong internal motivation and to have built a base of solid technique. However, this group thrives on feedback from the coaching staff and often have individualized workouts. This group has mandatory land exercise sessions, takes several team trips throughout the year, and expects to have twice-a-day practices often as they build their training throughout the season. They compete in meets about once a month, focusing on swimming fastest at their peak meets, and they are easily seen as the team's leaders.
