Head Coach Charlie McCanless

Charlie McCanless began his swimming career at the age of 6 and swam his way through college, finishing at East Carolina University as a Varsity Record Holder and Team Captain.  While in Greenville, NC he worked for Greenville Country Club as Head coach and after graduation he worked for SwimMac Carolina.  Following a move to Boston, Charlie worked for Charles River Aquatics as Senior Group Coach and a primary Age Group Coach.  He's worked with all ages and abilities from Junior National Level Qualifiers to children brand new to the sport.  Charlie is still a competitor himself and a proud US Masters Swimmer.

Coach Scott Simmons


.Coach Scott grew up in a Holland, Michigan and swam competitively from 1986-2011. With a mother who has been a Head Coach for 30 years, Scott and his family have a very strong background in USA swimming. Most recently, Scott was working as the Head Coach for the Stingrays at the Central MA YMCA. In addition to being an American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, he's an American Swim Coach Association Level 3 coach, USA Swimming and YMCA certified coach.


Coach Scott grew up in and around the water, and is excited to be moving down to Waynesville to help Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club conquer the sport one stroke at a time. He's a firm believer in teaching technique, reinforcing good habits and the importance of a positive attitude. He encourages all athletes to swim smart and use their senses. "Your life is a blend of the ingredients you add to it."


Coach Scott believes in fun, a positive, learning environment, and brings a motivating attitude to the team. He's thrilled to be moving to the mountains and looks forward to working with your athlete! We are excited to have him on board at Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club!
