SMAC Travel

Looking to excel to their highest potential, the SMAC Travel Group travels to meets in the perpetual quest of self-improvement, best times, new cut times and the next level. The group is looking to get their pink caps out front, conquer their goals one stroke at a time, and push Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club forward in the greater swimming community.  Parents are involved in their athlete’s quest to be not only competitive but successful.

 

Practice Schedule

The SMAC Travel group has practice options every day, Monday-Saturday.  With exception upon the coach’s discretion, the SMAC Travel Group will practice with these guidelines:

  • 9-10-year-olds: 4 practices per week, 4-6pm.

  • 11-14-year-olds: 5 practices per week, 4-6pm.

  • 15 and older athletes: 6-7 practices per week.

    • M/W/F 3:30-6:00pm

    • T/Th 3:30-6:00PM

    • Saturday: 9-10:30AM

Travel Team Requirements:

  1. The SMAC Travel group is called such because the group is expected to travel to and compete in meets, home and away.  The meet schedule is found on page (x).  

    1. With the exception of Championship level meets, all competitions will be kept within a 2-hour radius of the Waynesville Rec Center.

  2. The SMAC Travel group attends all of their expected practice requirements.

    1. Per practice, two workouts will be run.  Athletes are grouped based on ability.    One for advanced 13 and overs from one end of the pool and one for younger athletes from the other. Occasionally, both groups will be together.  

  3. Required Equipment:

    1. Team Suit, practice suit.

    2. Pink, Black and White Team Shirts. Pink and Black caps.

    3. 12 and Under Athletes: Kickboard, Snorkel, Fins, Mesh Bag, Pull Buoy

    4. 13 and Over Athletes: Kickboard, Snorkel, Fins, Mesh Bag, Paddles, Pull Buoy,

 


SMAC Local

The SMAC Local group is looking for fun, team spirit, and excitement that comes with being a member of Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club. Athletes in our Local program spend a significant time focused on refining stroke techniques using stroke drill progressions each season.  Athletes are also challenged to bring new technical developments into local competition.  Goals include developing and executing racing strategy, demonstrating sportsmanship and teamwork, and increased practice skills.   Although open to all age groups, this group is designed for athletes ages 12 and under.  

 

Practice Schedule

  • SMAC Local

    • M/W/F: -6:15-7:15PM

    • Saturday: 10:30-11:30AM

 

SMAC Local Team Requirements:

  1. Although this group is not required to travel to “away” meets, SMAC Local Team athletes will compete in SMAC Home meets and ASC Mini meets.  

    1. There will be a maximum average of one local meet per month.  

  2. Required Equipment

    1. Team Suit

    2. Black Team Shirt

    3. Team Cap

    4. Goggles

  3. SMAC Local Athletes have the ability to  compete in travel meets.  Athletes will incur a $40 Travel Fee per Travel Meet.

  4. SMAC Local Parents will be required to Volunteer at SMAC Home Meets.

 


A note on Group Placement

It is the responsibility of the coaches to place athletes in the appropriate group.  Coaches reserve the right to place athletes in the correct group.

 


Stroke School

This group is just gaining their footing in the water. They’re focused on learning to be comfortable, master flutter kicking, streamline and other swimming basics.  Athletes will be introduced to the mechanics of all four strokes.

Stroke School SMACers are accompanied by Coach Scott in the water, where they learn water safety skills, dives, and have a blast in the pool!  The group is for developmental swimmers only and is designed for swimmers ages 4-7.

 

Practice Schedule

  • Monday/Friday 3:00-3:30PM

  • Wednesday/Saturday: Wednesday 3:00-3:30PM, Saturday 8:00-8:30AM

 

Required Equipment

Bathing Suit, Goggles, SMAC Cap and a smile!

 


 

SMAC MASTERS

Everyone has different goals with swimming.  Many are looking to learn the basics, some are looking to stay in shape, others may be looking to swim at meets and possibly swim as fast as they ever have in the past 5 years, while nearly everyone just enjoys being in the pool. It's the goal of the SMAC Masters workout group to offer the expertise needed to achieve your goals.  The team also looks to offer the flexibility needed to meet the demands of your busy schedule.

The SMAC Masters group is open to all swimmers  ages 18 and up of all abilities.  Whether you’re just dipping your toes in the water, or looking to crush a big meet, SMAC Masters is open to all abilities ages 18 and up.
