​ TYDE Performance Track 


Track Goals & Purpose

The Performance Track is designed to further develop the swimmers' stroke technique and to improve aerobic and race pace conditioning. This track places an emphasis on competition and year-round training in preparation for success at all levels of competitive swimming.  

Developmental Focus

It is expected that Performance Track swimmers will practice and compete regularly throughout the season with a focus on high level performance at championship meets. All swim and strength workouts will focus on developing the following skills:

  • Interval awareness & improvement (being able to sustain speed throughout more challenging sets)
  • Introduction of test sets & other metric based training to gauge speed in practice
  • Strong understanding and application of race strategy
  • Application of improved strength through dry-land exercise to stroke power and technique
  • Preparation for entrance to the National Track​

Competition Focus

Swimmers will have a broad range of USA & YMCA meet opportunities.

  • Participation is required in all TYDE hosted meets
  • Regular participation is expected in other qualifying meets as directed by group coach
  • All swimmers will work toward a championship meet every 3rd of the year (including summer)
  • Season planning will focus on highest performance at GYSSA, USRY, 14 & Under & Senior NC Championships​

TYDE Performance Groups

Junior Performance

  • Age Range: 8-12
  • Entrance Requirements: Before joining the Performance Group, swimmers should have attended Competitive (YMCA or USA) meets and have achieved the following time standards for their age group.
    • ​2 BB times OR 4 B times (based on the USA Motivational Time Standards, Short-Course Yards or Long-Course Meters)

  • Practice Days Per Week: 6 practices are offered per week (Mon-Sat).  Swimmers must average a minimum of 3 practices per week for this group and are strongly encouraged to attend at least 4.
  • Daily Practice Structure: Each practice will last for 1 hour & 30 minutes and will include swim and strength practices. 
  • Event Focus:​ 
    • 200 FR
    • 100 BK
    • 100 FL
    • 100 BR
    • 200 IM
    • Achieve an IMX Score

Senior Performance

  • Age Range: 13-18
  • Entrance Requirements: Before joining the Performance Group, swimmers should have attended Competitive (YMCA or USA) meets and have achieved the following time standards for their age group.
    • ​2 BB times OR 4 B times (based on the USA Motivational Time Standards, Short-Course Yards or Long-Course Meters)

  • Practice Days Per Week: 6 to 7 practices are offered per week (Mon-Sat, exact schedule will vary by site).  Swimmers must average a minimum of 4 practices per week for this group.
  • Daily Practice Structure: Each practice will last for 2 hours and will include swim and strength practices.
  • Event Focus:​ 
    • 200/500 FR
    • 200 BK100/200 FL
    • 100/200 BR
    • Legal 200/400 IM
    • Achieve an IMX Score
