Methuen Group Descriptions

 

JUNIOR 

Practices: Pick 1-3x per week

 

Ability Level: Can swim 25yards Freestyle & 25yds Backstroke without stopping

 

Team Description:

This team is an introductory program that teaches children the fundamentals of being on a swim team within a fun learning environment. Swimmers will improve Freestyle and Backstroke
as well as learn the basics of Butterfly and Breaststroke. Lots of drills are used to keep children interested, having fun & learning.
The practices are modified and upgraded to the next developmental phase with a primary focus of establishing the proper technique of all four strokes. Swimmers will use drills and stroke progressions to improve skills further and build strength. The main goal is to learn how to swim and perform all strokes, turns, and finishes legally for competition. 

 

JUNIOR-VARSITY

Practices: Pick 2-5x per week

 

Ability Level: Can swim 200 yards without stopping and have a basic knowledge of all four competitive strokes.

 

Team Description:

This team is for proficient swimmers able to swim 200yds. without stopping. Swimmers must be able to perform both Freestyle and Backstroke flip turns to qualify for this team. Swimmers still do a lot of drill work to continue with technique but will also begin to integrate speed training and longer distance sets to help build endurance.
    

 

VARSITY

Practices: Pick 2-5x per week

 

Ability Level: Can swim 500 yards in under 9 minutes and can swim a legal 200 IM

 

Team Description:

This team is a competitive program for swimmers that can swim 500 yds. with solid skills already in place. The focus of this group is to increase power, speed, strength and endurance to meet swimmer’s personal competitive goals.

Salisbury Group Descriptions

BEGINNER 

Practices: 2 times per week for 1 hour

 

Ability Level: Swimmers ages 5-7 that can swim the length of the pool freestyle and backstroke without stopping.  This group is perfect for swimmers that enjoy swimming and are interested in moving at a faster pace. 

Team Description:                                                                                                                                                                                               The The beginner team is an introductory program for kids who enjoy swimming and want to do more than swim lessons.  In this group, coaches utilize props and games to make the learning environment fun for younger athletes.  The focus of this team is on learning fundamentals and improving technique.  This group spends a lot of time working on front and back crawl skills and coordinating breathing patterns.  Swimmer will also learn basic breaststroke, butterfly, turns, and starts.  The goal is for swimmers to build body awareness and become stronger and more confident in the water. 

AGE GROUP I 

Practices: 2 to 3 times per week for 1 hour

Ability Level: Swimmers ages 8-11 that can swim 100 yards without stopping and have a basic understanding of all four competitive strokes.  This group is perfect for swimmers currently at the Pre-Team level. 

Team Description:                                                                                                                                                                                  Age Group Age Group I is a developmental program with a primary focus on establishing proper technique for all four competitive strokes.  This group will spend a lot of time doing extensive technique work, using drills and stroke progressions to improve skills.  Swimmers in this group will also learn to do proper flip turns, competitive starts, and IMs.  A huge focus in this group will be on learning what makes strokes, turns, and finishes legal for competition.  This group will spend more time working on technique training compared to yardage giving them the chance to learn in a fun, low-intensity environment.

AGE GROUP II 

Practices: 2 to 4 times per week for 1 ½ hours

Ability Level: Swimmers ages 8-11 that can swim 500 yards without stopping and 100 yards of all four competitive strokes legally.  This group is for advance Age Group swimmers who have been on a swim team before.  New swimmers would need to try out to practice in this group.

Team Description:                                                                                                                                                                                  Age Group Age Group II is a competitive program for swimmers with solid skills already in place.  The focus of this team is to refine competitive stroke skills while beginning to incorporate speed training.  This group will still do a lot of drills and sets to improve technique.  They will also integrate technique changes with improved understanding of racing and race strategy.  This group will also be introduced to longer more complicated sets that will help them begin to build endurance. 

JUNIOR

Practices: 2 to 4 times per week for 1 ½ hours

Ability Level: Swimmers ages 12 and over that can swim the 300 yards without stopping and have knowledge of all four competitive strokes.  This group would be ideal for new swimmers who need the incorporation of technique and training.  This group is also for returning swimmers too old for age groups and not ready for (or looking for) an intensive training regimen.

Team Description:                                                                                                                                                                             Junior group Junior group is a developmental training program.  In this group, swimmers will develop solid technical skills while merging in a progressive and increasing workload.  This group will begin the season reviewing drills and stroke progressions then move into more specific practices that focus on power and endurance.   Swimmers in this group will also begin to incorporate dryland training to increase core strength, cardio cross-train, and build team cohesion. 

SENIOR

Practices: 3 to 5 times per week for 1 ½ hours + 2 times per week dryland for 1 hour

Ability Level: Swimmers are selected for this group, new swimmers must tryout to be placed int this group. Time standards are in place to reflect swimmers ability to complete basic sets they will see in our workouts. For example, all swimmers in this group must be able to complete 5 x 100 on 1:20.

Team Description:                                                                                                                                                                             Senior group Senior group is a competitive training program for older athletes who already have solid stroke mechanisms in place.  The focus of this group is to improving power, speed, and endurance to meet swimmers personal competitive goals.  Swimmers in this group will start to specialize in certain strokes, sprint swimming or distance swimming.  A lot of the sets that this team will do have been adapted from some of the more competitive teams in the area to give this team the opportunity to swim hard practice like them without the extreme commitment that those teams require.  This group will also have the opportunity to do dryland training 2 times per week to improve strength and conditioning.
