Melrose YMCA Sharks Swim Coaches

Head Coach Vicky Brienza teaches all levels of swim lessons and the swim team.  Vicky began swimming at the Boys & Girls Club and has been with the Melrose YMCA Sharks for 18 years as both a parent and as a coach.  She works with the freshman and sophomore groups.

 
 

Assistant Coaches:

 

Laura McCormack has 16 years of coaching experience. She is a former Melrose YMCA swimmer who joined the team at the age of 12 and was captain her senior year of high school. Along with the Sharks, she swam for Bishop Fenwick High School, where she qualified for Sectionals and States. She went on to swim at Westfield State, specializing in long distance, and graduated from Salem State in 2006 with a BA in English. She has worked with all ages of swimmers in her career, from those just beginning, to National level qualifiers. She will be working with all age levels in the pool.

 

Katie Garland is in her third year coaching for the Melrose YMCA Katie has been working as a lifeguard and teaching swim lessons for nearly 10 years. She swam competitively for Austin Preparatory School, where she was captain her senior year and qualified for Sectionals, Woburn Boys and Girls Club, Clarkson University, and UNH's Masters team. Katie recently graduated from UNH with a BA in Anthropology and a focus in Education. She is currently working towards her Masters in Education at Merrimack College. She will be focusing on the Sophomore and Junior groups.

Meghan McDaid joined the shark swim team at the age 7. She became captain her senior year of high school. She is a current student at the University of Massachusetts Boston, perusing a major in Criminal Justice with a minor in Philosophy and Law. Her favorite strokes are freestyle and breaststroke. Prior to becoming a coach, she taught swim lessons to all ages at the Melrose Y.
