GVSL Championships

All Monroe County-area teams in the Genesee Valley Swim League compete in a Championship meet which occurs in March. This traditionally was a two day meet with the girls swimming the first day and the boys swimming the second day. In 2012, the GVSL Championships were moved to a single day. It is a very big meet for our team and is what most of our swimmers strive for by working hard all season.

There are entry criteria include:

- A swimmer’s age for this meet is the age he/she will be on the first day of the meet.

- All participants  must have at least one GVSL Qualifying (Cut) Time. Cut times can be achieved at GVSL Meets or at Invitationals.

- All participants must be members in good standing with the BlueFins and Niagara LSC.
*New As of September 2017 - only 12 & Under ages must meet Qualifying Times

In the weeks prior to the meet an announcement will be sent out with a list of swimmers who are eligible to participate. Swimmers who wish to swim in the meet will be instructed to declare their intent to swim when the website meet sign-up is open. The coaches then place the swimmers in events and relays. If there is an entry fee for this meet it will be invoiced through the monthly billing system.

Awards are given at this meet.

PLEASE NOTE – This is a Prelim/Final meet.
This means that the fastest swimmers (12 or 16 depending upon the number of lanes) in each event in each age group during the preliminary (morning) will qualify to “come back” to swim in Finals that afternoon/evening.

ALL swimmers who qualify for Finals MUST attend Finals (NO EXCEPTIONS) and compete for final placement. Scratching will not be permitted. Participating in Prelims without also planning for the potential to swim at Finals is unfair to other swimmers who would love the chance to compete at Finals. Please remember to check the results at Prelims before leaving for the break to see if your swimmer will be coming back. The swimmer should check with the coach before leaving Prelims if they are not sure if they have qualified for Finals.

Some relays may only be swim during finals. It is important to check the meet announcement to see if the relay that your swimmer has been assigned will be swum during prelims or finals.
