Ruben Sembrano Head Coach

Born and raised in the Philippines, Ruben has always had a passion for swimming since he was young. He swam competitively as a child and continued swimming and coaching during his college years. He graduated from the University of San Carlos with a BS in Nursing, and further pursued his career in the United States.

In 2010, Ruben founded Jersey Flyers Aquatic Club. From the beginning, JFAC has created dedicated and fast swimmers who eventually went on to compete in highly competitive swim competitions such as Junior Olympics, Eastern Zones, Futures, Sectionals, Junior Nationals, and Nationals. Many of his swimmers have also continued their swimming career at a collegiate level including his three kids, Joshua, Kim, and Rebecca. His eldest kids, Joshua and Kim, swam and graduated the United States Military Academy in 2018 and 2019, and his youngest daughter, Rebecca, currently swims for Iona College and is pursing her BS in biology. 

While coaching JFAC, he is also the Director of Aquatics at the Knickerbocker Country Club. 

Michelle Sanchez Assistant Coach

Michelle Sanchez was born in NYC and raised in Secaucus, NJ. She started her competitive swimming career at the age of 6 with the Secaucus Seahawks and Steven Sharks, and later swam at Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics (AGUA) in Manhattan.

Michelle swam and graduated at Immaculate Heart Academy (IHA). She continued her studies at Duquesne University and earned her BS in Biology. She also earned her MS in Exercise Science and Kinesiology, and is currently pursuing her doctorate in sports medicine.

Michelle joined JFAC in 2016. In addition to JFAC, she is also the head coach of the Secaucus Patriots Summer League Swim Team and the Director of Swimming in Secaucus. 

Kat Cornelio Assistant Coach

Kat was born and raised in Secaucus, NJ. She started her swimming career at 6 years old with the Secaucus Seahawks and Stevens Sharks, and later moved to Cougar Aquatic Team (CAT). In high school, she was the captain for the Secaucus High School Swim Team, and also ran cross country and track and field. 

Kat graduated from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, PA with a BS in Health Science. She is currently studying at Montclair State University to earn her Master's degree in Exercise Science.
