LSC Swimmer Advancement

LSC SWIMMER ADVANCEMENT POLICY:

(PLEASE KEEP THIS FOR REFERENCE AS YOUR SWIMMER PROGRESSES THROUGH THE SWIM PROGRAM)

Purpose- The purpose of this policy is to set guidelines that can be used by coaches to bring consistency to the swimmer levels within the Longview Swim Club. This policy will also provide definition and guidelines for parents and swimmers so that they know what proficiency level must be reached to advance to the next level.

The following outlines the policy that should be followed once a swimmer is ready to advance to the next level. All advancement is at the coach's discretion.

Swim level advancement definitions: The swimmer should show ability and maturity in the following areas in order to be considered for advancement to the next level:

Sprites 

4:30- 5:15 (Tues & Thur) Non-Swimmer to Beginner Swimmer (ages 5 and up)

Pre-Classic

4:30-5:15 Mon and Wed and Fri.

1.  Freestyle kick 25 yards

2.  Backstroke kick 25 yards

3.  Freestyle swim 25 yards

4.  Backstroke swim 25 yards

5.  Freestyle swim breathing to the side

Pre-Classic to Classic I

4:30-5:15 M, W, F

1. Freestyle swim 100 yards breathing to the side

2. Backstroke swim 100 yards

3. Streamline Backstroke kick 50 yards

4. Legal Breaststroke kick 25 yards

5. Legal Breaststroke swim 25 yards

6. Butterfly kick 50 yards

7. Butterfly swim 25 yards

Classic I to Classic II

4:30-5:30 M-F

1.  100’s Freestyle swim on 2:15 minutes

2.  50’s backstroke swim

3.  50’s breaststroke swim

4.  50’s butterfly swim

5.  Flip turns, open turns

6.  Shows good work ethic and desire to improve in practice

7.  Read/understand interval clock

8.  Read workout board and understand sets

Classic II to Classic III

5:15-7:00 M-F

1.  Able to complete sets on level 3 intervals

2.  Exhibits desire to improve and willing to push

3.  Standard in sets as dictated by coaches training schedule.

Classic IV invitation onlycoach’s discretion/decision

1.Committed to minimum 4 workouts per week

2.Individualized notebook: Personal workout schedule

3.Monthly coaches conference: Set goals with Coach and write out plan

4.Swimmer test sets aerobic program

*This swimming level is for those with goals on collegiate level swimming.

LSC/USA: COMPETITIVE LEVELS

B/BC  BEGINNER LEVEL:

Ages 8-12 all start at this level for their very first USA meet they swim.

To advance to the next level the swimmer needs 3 qualifying BB times or  he/she turns 13 years old.

BB LEVEL:

At this level, a swimmer who is 13 will automatically  move into this division or when he/she gets 3 BB qualifying times( ages 12 and under). To advance from this division the swimmer needs three A qualifying times.

A LEVEL:

When a swimmer reaches three A qualifying times they are considered an A swimmer.  However, some meets allow a swimmer who only has one A time to swim in the meet with an additional one or two bonus swims.

TAGS:

Texas Age Group Swimming

This is a meet held on UT’s campus twice a year for ages 14 and under (short course and long course). In order to attend this meet a swimmer must qualify with higher time standards than the motivational time standards.
