These are merely guidelines. Each swimmer is evaluated by the coach as an individual within the team. The coach’s overall assessment provides the final measure in the decision making process.
Senior I
Swimmers entering this group should be Sectionals+ and be able to make 8x100’s on 1:12.5 for girls or 1:07.5 for boys, on a regular basis. Flexibility is mandatory, all swimmers should be able to get head to knees with ease. Workouts are more intense and require a greater degree of dedication. This group consists of committed athletes who are after the highest goals. Swimmers who enter this group should be extremely coachable, self-disciplined and prepared to do any extra work required in pursuit of their goals. Competition at the national and international level is the long range goal of these swimmers. Swimmers are expected to attend all practices, including Saturdays. 90% attendance is mandatory. Strong emphasis on dry land training as well as training in the water. Typical age is 14-18 years.

Senior 2
Swimmers entering this group should be very swimming focused. Swimmers should be taking daily steps towards their overall improvement in the sport, acquiring Sr. Time standards, making Sr. travel meets, and Championship meets. Emphasis is on building general endurance, and developing a strong aerobic base as a platform for future excellence and improving technique in all four strokes. Swimmers must display a strong degree of self-directed maturity and discipline. Swimmers are encouraged to work toward training and personal goals. Swimmers are expected to attend 85% of all practices. Typical age is 13-18 years.

PRE Senior
Swimmers entering this group should be knowledgeable of dry land stroke drills and drill progressions for each stroke. Workouts are designed for those swimmers interested in becoming well rounded high school swimmers. Emphasis is on building endurance, and improving technique in all four strokes. A swimmer should be able to do 5 X100s on 1:30. Swimmers in this group learn the fundamentals of a well rounded training program. This includes learning race strategies, pacing and improving technique. Swimmers are encouraged to be aware of their best times and training paces. Typical age is 13-18 years.

Age Group Elite
Swimmers entering this group are encouraged to set goals and work towards achieving JO times and beyond. They should be able to handle the workload proficiently, including 5x100’s on 1:30 on a regular basis. Swimmers learn the fundamentals of a well rounded training program. This includes learning race strategies, pacing and improving technique. Swimmers entering this group should be knowledgeable of dry land stroke drills and drill progressions for each stroke. Swimmers are encouraged to be aware of their best times and training paces. The main focus of this group is higher level competition such as Junior Olympics, Far Westerns, and Western Zones. Swimmers are encouraged to attend at least 75% of all practices. Typical age is 10-13 years.

Gold
Swimmers entering this group should have B+ times and should be able to handle the workload proficiently, including 5x100’s on 1:45 on a regular basis. Flexibility is mandatory, all swimmers should be able to get head to knees with ease. Swimmers learn the fundamentals of a well rounded training program. This includes learning race strategies, pacing and improving technique. Swimmers are encouraged to be aware of their best times and training paces. Swimmers are encouraged to work toward training and personal goals. Swimmers are encouraged to attend at least 70% of all practices. Typical age is 9-13 years.

Silver
Swimmers should enter this group with a knowledge of dry land stroke drills, and should be able to perform drill progressions for each stroke. Swimmers in this group have learned the fundamentals of swimming and have experienced some competition. More frequent practices are encouraged with emphasis on technique, conditioning, and endurance. Swimmers are encouraged to attend at least 3-4 practices each week. Swimmers in this group should be able to do 6x50’s on 1:00. Typical age is 9-12 years.

Bronze/Copper/White
Swimmers should enter these group being water safe and able to swim multiple laps of a 25 yard pool. Focus is on technique and fundamentals of swimming as well beginning competition. These swimmers are learning the basics of stroke mechanics and stroke efficiency. Swimmers are encouraged to attend at least 3 practices per week. Typical age 6-12 years.

SOAR
This group is a pre-competitive group. Swimmers should enter this group being water safe and able to swim across 25 yard pool unassisted. Focus is on technique and fundamentals of swimming as well beginning competition. These swimmers are learning the basics of stroke mechanics and stroke efficiency. Typical age 5-8 years.
