Boys 9&10 High Point Award

We sent 33 swimmers to the MAKOS Holiday Spirit Invitational swim meet that took place at Miami University’s natatorium from December 9th – 11th.  Our swimmers competed with age nine and over swimmers from four other states, including Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia.  This meet held preliminary competition during the morning and afternoon sessions with championship finals in the evening with the top nine swimmers from the 9 – 10 age group and the top 18 swimmers in the older age groups with both consolation and championship heats.

Two names were added to the NAAC record list: Alicia Donley and Miranda Donley.  Alicia set a new NAAC record in the 9-10 Girls 100 IM with a time of 1:10.87, beating the previous time of 1:11.04 that was set in 2006 by Rachel Jackson.  Miranda tied the previous record in the 11-12 Girls 50 Free-style with a time of 25.21 seconds that was also set by Rachel Jackson in 2008.  Congratulations to both Alicia and Miranda on their outstanding swims and for making the record books, again.

New Albany finished eighth overall among 25 teams and placed 15 individual swimmers in at least one evening final heat with many swimmers achieving finals in multiple events.

Saturday evening’s finals included one swim for all swimmers that have qualified as an alternate and wondered why they should bother to show up for the race when there were no scratches.  It was the girls 11-12, 200 Freestyle where Jessica Zaper was listed as an alternate.  As the girls were called to the block for the consolation heat, lane 6 was open.  Jessica, who was at the blocks and ready, was called to fill the open lane.  She adjusted her cap and goggles, took her spot and won the heat, leading from start to finish in an inspirational swim.

We will start spring practices the week of April 17th and training will run through May 29th.  Please check our web site for your groups training days and times.  The spring season is modified, and is included in your fees.  We encourage all the kids continue this summer with a local summer team.

Regional Championships-2011

What an exciting championship meet and time trials we had!!!!!!!!  We were sooooo proud of all the kids!!!!!!!  Everyone was dropping time and winning their heats.  Many made it back to finals and achieved state cuts individually or in relays.  The kids worked hard and it showed in their stroke and turn improvement from the beginning of the year.

It will be good for them to have a break, play outside and do a spring sport.  It always amazes us how they come back an inch or two taller.  Their bodies are able to use all the energy they aren't using in swimming to grow.
We will start back up mid April.  Please check the calendar as the groups, days, and practice times are posted for spring.

As we taper(rest) the kids in practice, it's important that they get plenty of sleep as they get closer to their championship meet.  Please make sure they are eating plenty of fruits and veggies, pasta, chicken, and drinking their milk and water.  Have them avoid too much sugar and fried foods.  Everything in moderation!

Kelly German Swim Meet

Congratulations to all the swimmers who participated in the Kelly German Swim Meet last weekend!  We were very proud of all the kids, and loved how they went out and raced and went best times!  The kids said it was their awesome new blocks:)  It was wonderful to see many of them qualify to swim in the finals at night also.

It's hard for us to believe we only have three weeks until the Regional meet for the kids 9 & older and five weeks until the Barbara Kay Mini Meet for the 8 & unders.  Keep getting them to practices.

Look for information this week about our Championship t-shirt to order online, and our Championship Fire-Up party by Chris Cakes.

Super job to all our Swimmers of the Meet!!!!

GCSTO January B Meet

Congratulations to all the swimmers who participated in the January B meet!!!  The kids did an outstanding job streamlining off their dives and walls, diving off the blocks, and getting the four strokes down.  We still have work to do this next month to get ready for our championship meets.  Please get them to as many practices as you can.

Super job to our Swimmers of the Meet!!!!

UASC Triple Crown Swim Meet

Congratulations to all the swimmers who swam in the Triple Crown Swim Meet this past weekend!  We are very proud of all of you!!  Even though it was a long meet, the swimmers still stayed focused, went out and raced, and had many best times.  We had 75% overall best times for the team.  We saw better streamlining and fly kicks off their walls, longer strokes, and racing their heats right from the start.  It was fun to watch our Vegas gold caps winning heats all weekend long!  The kids can see the correlation between getting to practices, working hard while they are there, and swimming best times now.
