Corvallis Aquatic Team
2018 Spring/Summer Trophy League
Welcome to the Corvallis Aquatic Team! In addition to our 11-month year-round swim program, we offer a spring/summer opportunity called the “Trophy League.” Trophy League is open to youth swimmers ages 5+. The minimum requirements are the ability to swim 25 yards of freestyle and 25 yards of backstroke.
The information below is for swimmers at our Osborn Division in Corvallis. Please click on the Clemens Division tab for information about our programs at Clemens Community Pool in Philomath.
How to Join
Come ready to swim to the deep end of the pool any day after April 2 at 3:30 pm M-F; 5:30 pm M-F for swimmers ages 11 & over, or 3:30 pm M-F for high schoolers. Swimmers will be evaluated for squad placement at their first practice.
All swimmers are welcome to do a trial week with the team to make sure we are a good fit for your family. If you choose to do this, once the trial week is complete, please register on the website (see below.) You may also register before coming to practice if you wish.
The Trophy League will begin April 2 and run through August 15. A swimmer may join at any time during that period. The cost will depend on the month the swimmer begins practices.
The cost of Trophy League is $425 if joining in April, $350 in May, and $275 in June. The lump sum cost includes monthly dues, pool rental fee for practices, USA Swimming fees, meet fees for the four Trophy League meets, a t-shirt, swim cap, end of season Trophy League party, and awards. High school aged swimmers who are not interested in Trophy League meets may join the team on a monthly basis, and should contact the Business Manager for cost information before registering.
Registration for the Trophy League will open on April 1, and is done online at our website, www.corvallisaquaticteam.org. Click on “Start Registration” and follow the simple steps. You may pay with credit card or check; if you choose the check option, please leave a check in the CAT dues box at Osborn, which is in the CAT Corner just to the left after you enter the lobby. As part of the registration process, you will choose a password which will allow you to access your CAT account on the website. This account can be used to review your invoices with the team as well as to sign up for meets. Any questions about registration or cost should be directed to our Business Manager, Rhonda Soule’, at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Trophy League Meets. There will be four Trophy League meets open to swimmers in the league. The tentative schedule is below - any changes will be announced as far in advance as possible.
Wednesday, May 30, 4 pm warmups, 4:35 pm meet, Osborn
Wednesday, June 20 4 pm CAT summer kick-off, Philomath
Tuesday, July 10, time TBA, Lincoln City
Wednesday, July 18 4 pm warm-ups, 4:35 meet, Dallas
Tuesday, August 7, 8:15 am warm-ups, 9 am meet, Osborn (outside pool)
These are fun, low-key meets perfect for the swimmer new to competition as well as more seasoned competitors. The meets are not mandatory, but swimmers are encouraged to swim in them for experience, fun, and to earn points towards a trophy. Swimmers may swim up to three events at each of the Trophy League meets. Sign-ups are done online on our website home page, and instructions will be emailed when the sign-ups for a meet are available. If you have any questions about how to sign up for meets, please feel free to email Sonia at email@example.com.
Other Meets. As part of the Trophy League cost, swimmers are registered with USA Swimming and are therefore also eligible to swim in other meets as a part of CAT. These meets will be posted on the CAT website under Calendar-Long Course season and announced in weekly emails. There are additional costs in the form of entry fees associated with these meets. Most of them will be “long course” meets, which are swum in 50-meter pools; but the Bend Open in August is a “short course” meet swum in 25 yard pool and is especially suitable for the newer competitive swimmer. We also usually have a very casual, fun, non-timed meet with the Corvallis Country Club at their pool at the end of the season, and twice-per-month casual "fun meets" during practice time at Osborn. If you have any questions about which meets are suitable for your swimmer, please speak with their coach or coach Greg Bostrom at firstname.lastname@example.org
Trophies. Each swimmer who participates in Trophy League meets will earn points towards a trophy. Points are accumulated from season to season so your swimmer will continue to receive larger trophies if they continue with CAT. Only those four meets designated as Trophy League will count towards the trophies. Swimmers earning at least 50 points in those 4 meets or competing in at least two of the four meets will earn a trophy.
CAT Picnic. Each July on a weekday evening there is a picnic for all CAT swimmers and their families, including the Trophy League participants.
Trophy League party. In addition to the CAT picnic, there will be a party at a local park just for Trophy League swimmers and their families. This party will be held on a weekday evening in August, just after the season is over. Trophies will be awarded, and there will be snacks, games, and other fun activities.
Scout Lake Play Day. On the Friday of the Bend Open meet in early August, CAT families meet at Scout Lake on Santiam Pass for a play day at the lake. All CAT families are welcome to attend, whether they are are continuing on to the meet in Bend or not.
"CAT Notes" Emails. The team business manager will send out emails which list the activities, meets, practice changes, etc. for the team for the upcoming week. Please read these emails and note any items which pertain to Trophy League swimmers and families. If you’re unsure as to if an item affects your family, please contact email@example.com.
CAT New Family Info. You may find it helpful to read the CAT New Family Info under “Team Info” on our website. Some of this information (especially that pertaining to costs and service hours) is specific to the year-round swimming family, but some of it is helpful to Trophy League swimmers as well.
Meet volunteering. Year-round swimming families are required to complete service hours at our five fundraising meets, the last of which is held in mid-May during the Trophy League season. Trophy League-only swimmers are exempt from this requirement.
Year-round swimming. The fall swimming season begins in mid-September. If you are interested in joining our team year-round, please watch for information in emails during the last part of the summer season about our all-team parent meeting on the Sunday prior to the first day of practice. There will also be an open house in the fall in September, and more information can be found on our website under the “Team Info” tab.
