Season Overview

River City Aquatics (RCA) is a USA Swimming team that operates on a year-round basis.  All USA Swimming meets are governed by USA Swimming rules and regulations.  Current rules and regulations are available on the USA Swimming website (www.usa-swimming.org).  There are two primary competitive seasons that RCA will participate in during the year.

USA Swimming Short Course Season
The short course season begins in September and continues through a series of LSC (Local Swimming Committee) and Regional championship meets that take place in February and March.  National level swimmers participate in the National and Junior National Short Course Championships in December. RCA is a member of the Ozark Swimming LSC.  Meets are conducted in a 25 yard short course pool during this season.

USA Swimming Long Course Season
The long course season typically begins at the conclusion of the short course season.  RCA will participate in long course meets as early as April and as late as August each year.  The LSC and Regional long course championship meets take place in mid July to early August.  The National Championship meets take place in early to mid August.  Meets are conducted in 50 meter long course pools, which is the Olympic distance.

There are a couple of additional competitive seasons RCA swimmers will participate in during the year.

Missouri High School Swimming
RCA athletes of high school age may participate in the MSHSAA high school competitive season.  The boys high school season begins in August and the MSHSAA Conference and State Championship meets take place in November.  The girls high school season begins in November and the MSHSAA Conference and State Championship meets take place in February.  Meets are conducted in a 25 yard or meter short course pool.  High School swimming is governed by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) rulebook although each state association has the authority to set their own rules.  Select competitions such as the conference and state championship meets may be observed by USA Swimming officials in accordance with Ozark Swimming rules in order to make the times posted at these meets by USA Swimming members eligible to be added to the national USA Swimming SWIMS database.

Southeast Missouri Swim Conference (SMSC)
Most of our RCA athletes participate on the RCA summer league team. RCA is a team member of the Southeast Missouri Swim Conference, which is an AAU affiliated league. The swim season typically begins in late May and the championship meet takes place in late July.  The RCA coaching staff encourages all eligible RCA swimmers to participate in this fun and exciting portion of our summer program.
