PAC Training Groups

2017-2018 Portland Aquatic Club Training Groups

PAC’s realigned training groups address the growing popularity of our program, the continued success of our athletes, and the on-going commitment to individual and team improvement across all levels.  PAC recognizes the importance of providing adequate lane space for training, offering multiple pathways for athlete advancement, and creating training and competition environments that focus on building components of the PAC team – Perseverance; Attitude; Character.

Development Training Groups

Offered at our Mt. Scott, Southwest, and Columbia “Site Pools”. Development Training Groups focus on stroke technique, building speed and endurance, as well as sportsmanship, team building, and enjoyment of the sport. Athleticism dryland sessions now offered Mondays and Wednesdays in spring and fall.

Bronze Group 

·        10 and Under Development Focus. 2 days per week.

Silver Group

·        12 and Under Development Focus. 3 days per week.

Gold Group (old Gold 3)

·        14 and Under Development Focus. 3 or 5 days per week.

o    11 year olds & under in the Gold 3 / 5 Group typically have “B+ or A times”. 

o    12-14 year olds in the Gold 5 Day Group are typically working towards Crossover Training Groups.

High School Group (old Sr. 3)

·        Year-round training for High School Swim Team and Multi-Sport Cross-Training. 3 or 5 days per week.

 

Crossover Training Groups

Combined training at “Site Pools” and Dishman Pool. Crossover Training Groups are designed as a developmentally appropriate transition for athletes looking for entry into the Elite Training Groups. More advanced dryland training is introduced along with Elite specialist sessions. Standards for entry are divided between 12-14 year olds and those 15+.

State Group (old Gold 2 & Sr. 2)

·        The State Group is PAC’s entry level crossover group focused on swimmers 12 years and up who are swimming on the State Team. These swimmers join PAC’s Elite groups for Saturday morning sessions.    

o    Standards for Entry

§   12-14 year olds: 2+ “A times” (not including 50 fly, 50 breast, 50 back, or 100 IM); Completed IMX within the past year; Swimming 5 days per week with 80% attendance for 3 or more months.

§   15+ year olds: 4+ “14 year old A times”; Completed IMX within the past year; Swimming 5 days per week with 80% attendance for 3 or more months.

Crossover (old Gold 1 & Sr. 2)

·        The Crossover group is a stepping stone to full-time Elite Training Groups. Athletes train 3 days per week with the Elite Groups, while maintaining a leadership role with teammates at their “Site Pool” 3 days per week.

o    Standards for Entry

§   12-14 year olds: 4 “14 year old A times” (not including 50 fly, 50 breast, 50 back, or 100 IM) OR 4 “Age Group Regional Times for age group” (not including 50 fly, 50 breast, 50 back, or 100 IM); Completed IMX within the past year; Swimming 6 days per week with 80% attendance for 3 or more months.

§   15+ year olds: 6 “14 year old A times” OR 2 “Age Group Regional times”; Completed IMX within the last year; Swimming 6 days per week with 80% attendance for 3 or more months.

 

Elite Training Groups

Elite Training Groups at Dishman Pool are for those competing at the Regional level and above who have chosen competitive swimming as their singular focus sport. Sessions with local elite specialist in sport nutrition, sport psychology and swim specific physical therapy are incorporated into training. Advanced dryland is a regular part of training.

Pre-Elite (old Sr. 1)

·        Pre-Elite has two focused age-groups. 12-14 year olds focus on building strong Age Group State & Regional Teams as well as aim for placement on Oregon All-Star & Age Group Zone Teams. 15+ year olds focus on building a strong 15-18 Age Group Regional and Western Zone Teams with the goal of qualifying for the Senior Sectional Teams.

o    Standards for Entry:

§   12-14 year olds: 6 “14 year old A times” with 2 being “Age Group Regional times” for age (not including 50 fly, 50 breast, 50 back, or 100 IM); Completed IMX within the past year; Swimming 6 days per week with 80% attendance for 3 or more months.

§   15+ year olds: 4 “15 year old A times” with 2 being “Age Group Regional times”; Completed IMX within past year; Swimming 6 days per week with 80% attendance for 3 or more months.

Elite (New)

·        PAC’s Elite team is focused on 15+ swimmers, building Strong Sectional Teams and supporting swimmers to achieve qualifying times for competition at Futures, Juniors, and National meets.

o    Standards for Entry

§   15+ year olds:  1 “Winter Senior Sectional time”
