Speakers & Specialists


Regular visits from speakers and specialists enhance the Alto Swim Club group learning and athlete and character development. Through years of experience, the coaching staff has outlined a curriculum of articles, videos, resources, and group activities designed to assist athletes in developing the skills for long-term learning and success in the sport. 

Speakers and specialists are selected for their unique contributions, with topics ranging from high performance training, National & International competition experience, dryland training, stroke analysis, character development, confidence coaching, and many more.

Recent Speakers

Anna Lembke: Stanford psychiatrist, professor, and author of the book “Drug Dealer, M.D.”

Sarah Haase: NCAA Champion, All-American. 3rd all-time fastest 100 yard Breaststroke, Stanford Swimming team member.

Dr. Genadijus Sokolovas: Current performance consultant to USA Pentathlon and long-term specialist in USA Swimming.

Christie Shefchunas: Speaker, Author and Life/Confidence Coach, 4x All American athlete, confidence coach for swimmers & other female athletes.

Maya Dirado: National Team member, Stanford Swimming team member, American 2015 silver metalist in 400 meter IM at 2015 World Championships, 4th in the 200 IM. 

Felicia Lee: U.S. National Team member, Stanford Swimming team member, American silver medalist in the 4 x 50 -meter medley relay at the 2014 FINA World Swimming Championships. 

Ed Spencer: USA Swimming Master Coach Consultant. Ed was the Head Coach of the Dynamo Swim Club from 1998-2004. While there, he led the Dynamo Swim Club to several 18 & under National Championships, six consecutive years as Southeastern Senior Sectional Champions and three consecutive second-place finishes in the USA Swimming’s Club Excellence Program. 

Bob Gillett: USA Swimming Master Coach Consultant. Bob has over 50 years of coaching experience and his swimmers have won 11 National Championships, 50 Junior National Championships. Notably he coached Olympic Gold Medalist Misty Hyman and was instrumental in developing the underwater fish kick.

Rachael Acker: PASA alumni, for Cal Women's Swimming alumni. Silver medal with USA’s 400-meter relay team at the 2013 World University Games. Two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American. Two-time first-team Pac-12 All-Academic choice and CSCAA Scholar All-America. Recipient of the Cal's Warren Hellman Scholastic Award.
